[DML] Re: X-wife & saving 00963

You know,

Your story on the surface sounds horrible but the coolest thing about
DeLoreans is that this car might be surprisingly solid. The stainless
and fiberglass underbody aren't going to degrade.

The real question is: What condition was the frame epoxy in when it
was parked? If it was badly cracked and flaking, expect some frame
problems, especially in the "crumple tube" or front frame extension.
If the epoxy was solid, then the metal may be solid.

The door seals may have dried out and allowed years of rainwater
intrusion trashing the interior and corroding wiring. And of course,
expect the fuel system, cooling system hoses and clutch and brake
hydraulic systems to be trash. Depending on any coolant leaks, you
may have some engine block corrosion.

This car reminds me of that Plymouth Belvedere that was buried for 50
years in Tulsa, OK that was recently excavated. Post some pictures of
the body, interior and underbody. I'm very curious to see how it has

1981 "D". It sunk in the P.O.'s backyard collecting dead leaves,
acorns, rain etc. It would very easily fit into Tamir's "Sad
Delorean" profile. It was far worse than the pictures I seen of it.
The more I looked at it the more upset I got.

the rims and the sunshade. Since I had already spent $400.00 on gas,
tow hitch, rented trailer and driving 14 hours, getting these three
items would help even things out. I asked the owners wife if he would
sell only some parts from the car. She arranged a meeting at the
owners work site and I offered to buy the parts. The owner said he
would not part it out. It was all or nothing. As I got up to walk out
the door he asked me what I thought it was worth. I threw out a
figure that was half of what he was asking and he said I owned it. I
had no idea of the fun ahead!

onto a U-Haul car carrier. We had to drag a old pickup truck out of
the "D"'s path, air up the back tires, remove the front tires,
replace the front tires with ones I had brought along, drag the "D"
about 100 feet to release it from the 8 inces of ground it was stuck
in. What a ordeal.

to be repairable. After 16 hours of driving at 50 miles an hour it
is now in IL. I have to thank my X-wife for making the trip possible.
So this is really a good X-wife experience if there is such a thing.
