I've heard some people say that an auto trans doesn't last long with the added horsepower, so i've been debating on whether to do it or not.  As you said the stock prv in an auto is quite the slug.

automatic. If you don't bash on it the transmission should last. In
the automatic the torque convertor helps to smooth things out so you
don't have the sudden shock loads like a 5-speed if you were to "dump"
on the clutch. My guess is the gas mileage would be some amount less
than a stock PRV. The performance roughly would equal the stock PRV in
a 5-speed. The stock PRV with an automatic is a "slug".
