Make SURE you remember to disconnect the battery first.

 

Loosen all bolts and nuts before you actually remove any of them.  

 

Clean up all the electrical connectors with an emery cloth or similar
before reassembly.

 

Install a new belt.

 

I used a floor jack to put slight pressure on the alternator while
tightening up the bolts for the belt tension.

I find myself in a similar situation ... 

I'm not very mechanically inclined, and my alternator is going. I
figured this might be a good opportunity to learn some new skills, so
I bought a new one (and I just received it in the mail). 

Installation seems pretty straight forward, but does anyone have any
tips that they'd like to share?
