Re: [DML] Re: I want to start production of Deloreans again!!!

I think the whole reason DMCH is doing this is because they make probably most their money from $100 hr maitenance and repair work. That is one reason they opened up several other facilities across the states so they can spread themselves out more and gain more business with distant owners. If they get more "Kit" cars out ther,. that's more cars that need to be worked on in the future. That also leaves less stock of parts in inventory and more reason to raise prices. I could be way wrong but it's just a thought. I am not sure I see a great benifit to creating a kit car and using up inventory. Now maybe rebuilding some and using original VIN numbers to bring back to life wrecked cars I can understand.

I pretty much agree with you completely, but will add that DMCH
probably has quite a number of wrecked car Vin plates sitting around
along with the ones in the hands of the affiliates. The other thing is,
with the ultra low production volume, they are probably exempt from
many things that regular automakers would have to go throught. For
example emissions testing and crash testing. Maybe this new production
thing will be enough for them to look into a low volume run of left
fenders and driver torsion bars. James did tell me recently that he was
going to start looking into the torsion bars, but fears the quotes will be
very high. The material and machining cost would be fairly reasonable,
however the cryogenic twisting is the big expence, Mainly building the
machine that does it. Or finding a company that has equipment to do it.
I doubt Grumman aerospace would ever concider doing it again. There
is also a finite number engines left. When all said and done I don't see
more than 100-150 ever being built. That's assuming 20 cars per year.

James also told me the new price of the cars starting in Dec-Jan time frame.

Anyone care to guess?

Dennis
