[DML] Diplomacy

I have read with great interest the posts about people acting badly
around DeLoreans. I do not have one yet, but I am wondering if there
are techniques for letting people know they have 'crossed the line' but
without causing the offender to have a bad experience.
The idea of putting a rope, decorative chain to keep people out of
display cars is great.
The one where the gal took the cover off the car, I think I would have
walked up to her and said something to the effect you have great tastes
in cars...
What I am asking is, are there situations where being diplomatic has
worked, and everyone walks away with the understand that the car is
more than something to play with?
