[DML] Re: Black Delorean

Some dealerships did occasionally send a DeLorean or two out to be
painted before they sold them. It's no different than when they do
this with modern cars for two-tone paint jobs, gold-plating trim, or
aftermarket wheels. And just the same, it doesn't increase the value
of the car any either. Doesn't matter if the dealership painted the
car before it's initial sale, the owner painted it after, or even if
someone even did it themselves in their garage. The price is
unaffected. And after a quarter-century, who knows what condition the
paint is in.

Now if you had this car by chance, and put together a portfolio for it
showcasing it's history, that would be an interesting factoid to
include in it.

If I were to consider buying this car, I'd want extra pictures first.
Have the seller remove both the seat covers and the front bra to make
sure they're not covering up any damage. You want to check the
condition of the leather and the stitching of the seats. Being a car
that you slide down into the seats on, the stitching can easily stress
and tear over time when people get into the car.

And although it's supposed to protect the car, a bra can easily do
more damage that it's meant to stop. Water gets behind it, and rusts
out hardware, and wind and constant vibration will make the bra, and
the fasteners rub back and forth on the paint and cause it to wear
away. And if you take a look at the pictures, you can see the vehicle
was just washed and has some nasty condensation build up behind the
vinyl lenses right now. So even if the car was perfect when that bra
got installed, things can quickly change unbeknownst to the owner of
any car who installs one.
