[DML] Re:Mice & Nasty smell still.

I stored my D in my son-in-laws shop while we took a 4½ month trip last year and mice set up house in it. They tore my sheepskin seatcovers apart to use the wool for bedding, etc. I found wool in the A/C and heater ducts, under the seats, even in the space behind the center grille (between the headlights). Every piece of their bedding stunk of "varmit" because mice and rats don't just stop someplace to urinate, they dribble urine fairly constantly. It took me months to get rid of all the bedding material they had secreted in every concievable nook and cranny behind the dash, around the luggage compartment, under the seats, inside the console, etc. but I finally got it all out and (Surprize!) the rodent smell went away. Every now and then I'll turn on the heater or A/C and get a little tuft of grey wool come flying out, with it, the faint waft of critter.

I'm sorry to say that it's a long, ardent and frustrating process to clean up behind these little pests, but that's the only way I know of to clean it effectively. A nice vanilla auto air freshener doesn't hurt, either.

If you ever store the vehicle again, be sure to put a couple boxes of pelletized poison mouse bait on the floors, in the luggage compartment and even one in the engine compartment. When they eat the bait (and they will), they become dehydrated (that's how the poison works) and they leave to go find water. They almost never die in the vehicle, causing that "dead varmit" smell that's even more difficult to get rid of.

Good luck,

Craig Werner
