RE: [DML] Cooling Fans Not Turning On

I had the same problem recently and ended up with the rad cracking and
spiting coolant out. Luckily no damage was done to the engine.

Im replacing the Rad tomorrow along with the water pump as it was on the way
out anyway.

I have also wired up a direct switch so that I can switch the fans on as and
when I want to in case of any problems. Ive replaced the rear screen switch
with one of DMCH on off switches and its really useful.

Also changed the temp sensor so hopefully things will work better now.

The fans are appearing to kick in at the correct temp now (the rad holds the
water unless the engine warms up and is revved so I was able to test the
fans carefully) but I don't know if they are going to intermittently work
and not work.

Will just keep an eye on things.

Would anything cause an intermittent fault just to bear in mind.

In fact, the car need not be running, the key need only be in the run
position as I recall. - makes it much easier to hear the fans come on
too...

Hi Glen,

To test the fans, simply unplug the wires from the otterstat and touch
them together while the car is running. The usual safety rules apply!!

If they do not come on, check the circuit breaker things in the fuse
compartment. They are side by side, one for each fan, and are white,
IIRC. If they are blown, the fans may be dying.

Normally my fans come on right around 210 F. I'm sure both were
working until very recently. Sitting in traffic the other day, I
noticed they didn't switch on. My temp needle isn't going over the
220 mark, but I'm not sure I trust the reading. I've tried replacing
the otterstat and also upgraded to PJ Grady's "little grey box" fan
relay fix. I let my car idle for about 20 mins after this, temp
needle went to 220 but still no fans. Is there a way to jump the fans
or some test I can do to determine if they're working?

Thanks,
Glenn
