[DML] Questions About John DeLorean - GM, DMC2, and His Legacy

I just watched the DCS 2000 video on YouTube where John spoke about DMC and his new cars.

Incredble man - I wish could have met him.

Anyway, he mentioned General Motors had asked him to take a look at what went wrong with them and what could be done about it and he was seriously considering it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that around the time they were looking to bring someone in before they got Bob Lutz? Could GM have really tried to get the legendary John DeLorean to come back and straighten out the mess? If so, it makes one wonder why he didn't accept the offer.

Also, what happened to the planned cars? I know since he passed away the plans are scrapped, but where are they? Did Kathryn (sp?) inherit them? If some enterprisingg person wanted to build such a car, would she sell the plans to them?

What happened to the supercar that was "about 85% complete"?

On another note, who were the people involved with the designs, engineering, etc.?

From the way John spoke - and we know how eloquent he was - things were moving along nicely and we should have seen the cars sometime around mid-2004, early 2005.

My personal feeling is that DMC COULD have been resurrected as a small coach buiding company, by producing a handful of supercars and a couple hundred "cheaper" cars a year.

The same applies to Stephen Wynnes DMC - why couldn't he take John's plans and work something out and bring it to market?

Everyone seems to think back positively about John DeLorean and reflect upon DMC somewhat sympathetically as a great "what-if" company.

There is definitely a market for the DeLorean name so why not build upon it? There is so much potential! Personally I liked the idea of DeLorean glasses, watches, jackets, fragrances, etc. to go along with a gleaming new car bearing John's name!

Whoever reads this, I want to ask them to take a moment to think about what it would be like to read about the 2009 DMC Open House event where they showcased their new show car - a real, modern DeLorean based on John's plans. Hell, I'd buy one.

There's something very special about the DeLorean name....and there is so many positive things that could be done with it. We could really live in a "DeLorean World".

  Thanks for reading everyone.
