Re: [DML] Be careful BEFORE YOU BUY A Delorean

Interesting piece you have just written. What you are stating doesn't apply to a DeLorean, it applies to anyone purchasing a 25 year old car. As a long time collector, I am always aware of what I am buying. Taking a sellers words as gospel is your own fault. If your buying a 25 year old car, have it checked out by a qualified technician! Its stupid not too unless you are someone who knows how to do the work yourself and has the budget for it. A DeLorean in not unlike any other car that's been neglected for years, it will fall apart.
However, if its been looked after, or has a thourough restoration, it will be a great collector car that can be used and enjoyed. I don't know what you paid for your car, but it seems like $30,000 is the majical number for a DeLorean. You might buy one for 15k and have to put another 15k into it, or buy one for 30k and its done and ready to go.

I bought mine last May. It's a great car but I have records showing $20,000 in work that was performed to make it the car it is today. This is an expensive hobby, don't kid yourself into thinking it will be cheap. In one of the collector cars I own, I spent a year looking for the right one. Once you find the right car, it's a true pleasure. As you are now seeing, if you buy what you percieve to be a bargain, it can be a HUGE mistake.

John DeLorean did a great job, I enjoy my DeLorean more that my other cars that cost considerably more. Maybe you should sell the car you bought and find one thats restored and and ready to be enjoyed. Just an FYI, there are now several companies that will finance a DeLorean to make it more within reach financially.

Anyone on this list considering buying a DMC use caution before you
buy. We bought our car (a 1981 with 15k miles) a few months ago. It
was advertised as "excellent" and "runs perfect". Well we have a car
that is literally falling apart. Turns out it was never maintained and
left to sit unused in a garage for ages. Every part of the car is
breaking (engine, lights, switches). You name it, it's broken. We've
been quoted with almost $20k in repairs just to get it road worthly.
The private seller basically lied to our faces about the condition.
