[DML] Lower Ball Joint Dilemma - Help!

I bought new lower ball joints, along with support retainer
reinforcements from SpecialTAuto. My mechanic is telling me that when
he puts the ball joint into the control arm, there isn't enough
clearance on the top side of the control arm to install a snap ring
which I guess holds everything in place. He's saying the fit is just
a hair too short to allow the snap ring.

I have a call out to John at SpecialT and I'm sure he'll answer, but
in the interest of getting an answer to my mechanic by Monday, I
figured I'd also ask the group if anyone has had this problem or may
know what the solution is. I'm assuming there is only one size of
ball joint for our cars. I have an Oct 81 build and I belive the
control arms to be original. Any help is appreciated, including
installation instructions so that I can verify the mechanic is
following the correct proceedure (he has the shop book...but maybe
there's something different about the SpecialT ball joints?).

Thanks!
Glenn
