Correction (and notification that I sometimes trail-off when I talk 
and drive at the same time): I don't know if CLR would remove any 
discoloration for certain, but SOS pads are commonly the CAUSE of 
rust on stainless steel. You've gotta use Scotch Brite pads to try 
and scuff out the offending metal bits that are embedded in the 
Stainless. Then go back and regrain and hit it with a blending pad.

It will work with any type of stainless surface: Car fenders/trim 
panels, sinks, countertops, cutlery, etc.
