If the wire is arcing to the engine, some or all of the spark energy is 
going to ground that way instead of across the plug.  It's not benign. 
Replace the wires.

You can check the operation of the injectors by popping ALL of them out 
of their wells, pointing them at the side of the bay, jumping past the 
RPM relay to make the pump run, then pressing down on the metering 
plate.  The injectors will spray a volume proportional to the deflection 
of the plate.  They should all squirt a cone of mist of roughly equal 
volumes.  Don't check the spark after doing this.
