[DML] Re: Restoring a dealer sign

It's actually designed to be mounted from the bottom on two posts
with four 1/2" screws on each post. Probably similar to the 4" post
in your basement that holds the first floor.

I found the best thing was to screw two 4x4 posts to the wall,
cantilever a 2x10 out from the two 4x4s, and then set the sign on the
2x10 with 4 bolts (2 each end) into the bottom. I also clamped it to
the wall from above.

It runs on 110V but it's a very strange commercial sign ballast (I
had to replace one - over $100). Also - if you are moving it
yourself, open up the top and make sure that the assembly that hangs
the two bulbs in the center is secure. It tends to weaken/break with
travel, and if one end lets go you will end up with a sign full of
broken light bulbs or worse, it will bang around and tear up the
white plexi on the inside.

The ballast is all the way at one end so the weight balance is
strange when you go to lift it.

I've heard of people gutting the sign and replacing everything with
standard 48" bulbs and hardware, lots of work.

You can also hang the sign from above if you leave the top off or put
holes in it. There is no good way just to screw it to the wall
without some sort of shelf below.
