[DML] rear view mirror upgrade mounting

For those of you have upgraded to the fancy & heavy rear views-- what has
been the best mounting method?
I know the flexi-mount rubbery pad from the vendors-- but what about the
broader base for the button that some have done and recommend? Is that the
best method? Does that introduce more vibration or lessen it? Where do you
source a piece of black acrylic for that? Bigger pieces of the rubbery
mounts than the 1x1" vendor pieces?
