The diode is what makes the fan come on with the A/C, not the 
reverse. If the diode is bad, the compressor will engage but the 
cooling fans will stay off until turned on by the otterstat. 

Did you jump the switch on the accumulator bottle?

Thanks John - one question would a blown coil stop the fans 
from turning on? The complete AC system is less than 1 year 
old hopefully freon has'nt leaked out.. What about the 
diodes in the fuse compartment as shown in the wiring 
diagram?
