[DML] Re: Removing Exhaust Manifold Studs





On my previous engine I used a nut splitter and left the studs in
place. Cleaned up the threads with a 7mm die then replaced with
stainless nuts & washers (same diameter as wave washers but 1/8" thick).

BTW: my theory of PRV exhaust manifold gasket failure is those wave
washers. Several of mine were eaten in half or missing altogether. I
think their absence allows just enough flex for the gasket to become
damaged and deteriorate. Obviously the studs and nuts aren't moving.

Hopefully 1/8" thick stainless washers will solve that problem (used
them on my new block too). Stainless nuts will facilitate removal if
they don't...
