Engine and Automatic Transmission Removal and Installation

Hello,

I was wondering if is possible to remove and then later install the 
engine while it is still connected to a automatic transmission as a 
single unit? I know that this is possible with the manual 
transmission but I'm unsure about an automatic. I assume this would 
easier than removing them separately, if this not true please let me 
know. Also, any pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.
