Dave - Yes, I have first hand information on a failure. Interestingly 
enough, the bottle had split down the middle at the casting seam, 
rather than at the "crazed area" near the aft upper end of the bottle. 
The car (see "resurrected barn relic") apparently had a history of 
overheating, which lead to it's being parked in the barn. The real 
problem turned out to be a failed bolt on one of the water 
distribution pipes under the intake manifold. The bolt has been 
repaired. But, I had to donate my original plastic bottle to the 
cause to get the relic on the road. As with most D owners, I replaced 
mine proactively when I heard that it was a "must replace" item.
