[DML] Asbestos vs stainless steel heatshields

Please, can someone elaborate on the positive/negative sides regarding the 
choice of asbestos heatshields and stainless steel heatshields?

Personally, I find the idea of a stainless heatshield very interesting, but 
does it really do a good job, r does it work more or less as a catalyst so 
that the heat is "kept and reflected" in the heatshield and not absorbed and 
disappearing?
