Before you replace the master cylinder, give us a little history of the car.

Was there any apparent leakage of the MC?
Were the brakes functioning before the attempted brake bleed?
Was this a storage car?
Was there a reason other than maintenance to bleed the brakes?
Did the MC reservoir ever run dry?

What I'm thinking is the MC may not be bad just needs to be properly bled.
Of course if its the OE MC then it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it
anyway. Contact one of the vendors and see what they have to say.

And its only two nuts on the firewall to remove the MC.
