[DML] Re: LED replacement bulbs

Rod,

As others have said, this is a very easy procedure. You don't have to
take the sockets from the door frame - in fact if you do, you won't be
able to get to the bulbs. The colored plastic lens is what you need to
remove. It's held in place by the rubber that runs around it. Simply
use a screwdriver to pry the rubber back and the lens pops right out.
The LEDs are a direct replacement for the bulbs. This is a 5 minute
job max.

As for a danger of cracking the lens plastic, I'm sure there is, but
it's very, very slim. They're made well with thick plastic. I can't
see them cracking unless they are already extremely brittle or falling
apart, in which case you'd want to replace them anyway. My car is an
'81 with 46k miles and the lenses look like new. Nice and solid. At no
time did I think they might crack from this procedure.
