( moderators note: The gas price discussion is drifting away from any DeLorean connection and is becoming political. I'm not posting anything that doesn't have a DeLorean related connection, for example: the price we will encounter on the trip to P.F. which was the intention when this topic started. )

Don't know if you are old enough to remember 1980.  But in 1980 the 
price of crude oil also reach $40 per barrel like it is today.  However, 
gasoline prices were only $1.49 per gallon back then.  Today, they are 
over $2.00 per gallon.  

Making this even worse of a rip off, is the fact that refinery 
efficiency has increased by 5% during this 24 year period. The net 
impact is we are being ripped off by the oil companies by more the 50 
cents per gallon in pure profit.

I would be willing to bet that this has something to do with the fact 
that BUSH and Cheney are both from oil companies.
