Ok,
Heck of an explanation so I won't try to top it....:) I have had
16X7 fronts and 17X7 rears on my car for some time now and they really
make a difference. I say go with it, upgrade +2.
Don, to address your 16" front tire size, a 205/50 is a larger
diameter than the 195/60 14" stock. The closest match that comes
within a few hundreths of an inch is 205/45 16. If you run 205/50's I
hope you'll have your speedo recalibrated or you will be traveling
faster and farther than indicated.

I also brought a set of front and rear Michelin Pilot XGT H4 from the Tire
Rack several weeks ago since there are no other tires available. The Michelin
Pilots are a matching front and rear models and they look good without any
"white" raised letters. IMO, they are just the best tires that I had on the
DeLorean which includes the NCTs, Dunlops, Pirellis and Yokohamas.
The Michelin Pilots ride and handle like the Pirellis. They have just a
little more road "feel" then the Yokohamas AVS and they also hold the road
just a bit better.

A very quick rundown is as follows:
Sump is DMC unique,
Sandwich plate is Renault 30.
Block is common to the R30 and Volvo B28F, as is the Crank.
Heads, cams, pistons, injection system common to the Volvo version
Water pump (specifically the pulley) is Renault, Though Darryl sells a pulley to allow
the use of a Volvo pump
AC is common to Renault though mounted in a different place making the mounting brackets
and idler pulleys unique to DeLorean.
Alternator uses Renault mounting hardware.
(all to the best of my knowledge!)

On most premium branded tires there is an index mark on the tire that
the person mounting the tire to the rim is supposed to line up with
the tire valve. Doing this reduces the amount of weight needed to
properly balance the tire. You can balance the tire without lining up
the mark but the less weight you use the better because of what is
known as "Unsprung Weight" (look it up) It doesn't make a whole lot of
difference usually on a tire but the faster you go the more important
it gets. Also on the really high performance tires in many cases with
high speed ratings you can only mount them and use them to rotate in a
particular direction because of the extreme centrifical loads. They
are made to only turn in the direction of an arrow molded in the
sidewall. For a lot more technical information if you go to the
websites of the major tire manufacuteres they have a lot of info. BTW
I try to stay away from the wheel weights that glue on. I have seen
too many cases where they fall off and then the tire is out of
balance. I also see many times where an owner didn't like the way the
weights looked so he had them all put on the inside of the rim. This
defeats most of the purpose of having a wheel dynamically (spin)
balanced. Any time you have a wheel mounted or a leak repaired you
should have the tire rebalanced. Make sure they remove ALL of the
weights before trying to balance the tire and always use new ones
(when reusing weights they can fall off easier). Good advice for all
the cars you drive.

I am offering up my 1981 Delorean here on the list first before I
sell it out-right. After being unemployed for over 9 months, I must

I have a 1983 that I believe has a bad starter. I have 13 volts on the dash meter and when I turn the key I hear the fuel pump and the relay behind the passenger seat and I hear a loud click from the engine bay (the solenoid?) but the engine does not turn. Jumping does not help.
I used to rely on Joe Lore (DMCJOE) but understand he is out of this business for now.
Does anyone know of a repair shop that will look at the car?
I have talked to several independent repair places and they want nothing to do with it.
