Before I owned my own copy, I would have said it would be great if you could distribute this information.....
BUT...
Now that I own a copy myself, I'd have to say I would be upset because distributing this information will hurt the value of the real book.. I happen to "get lucky" and find my book for a reasonable price (not $250 on Ebay!), but there are a good number of people who paid over $100 for their book. Is it fair to hurt the value of their "investment"?
I'm sure a number of people will contact you offering you small amounts of money to make copies for them. Its a good bet you will go ahead and "help them out", but your not helping the value of the book.
If it matter to you, the book is still under copyright of the publisher. Making a copy of protected material IN ANY FORM (this is the law that killed napster, a digital copy like this is also covered in the law) is illegal.

I make the folowing comments with mixed emothions.
As a DeLorean owner and the owner of Stainless Steel
Illusion, I would hope that everyone would get a copy.
It is a fascinating book.
As the owner of a bookstore, I find it reprehensible
that people will violate copyright laws "because the
book is too expensive and I DESERVE to have a copy".
This is just another example of what I perceive to be
a problem with our society; ie, "its just a little
thing, so it is okay".
I don't deal in used/rare books. When I occasionally
come across a copy of this book I buy it and then
offer it to a DeLorean owner for whatever it cost me.
However, that is still rather expensive.
I appreciate Ken's approach to this issue, but
integrity, honesty and ethics provide a very clear
path to follow. In today's society, it may be the
road less traveled, but it is the right road to
follow.
Just my 2¢.

though using the original design as a template, this module has
(finally) been fitted to James Russel-Grant's car and shown to work

beautifully, kicks down correctly and is smoother than ever"
The new governor has been designed professionally and as a drop-in
replacement for the original (unfortunately due to its nature you will
have to be able to use a soldering iron to fit it). It is based on the
original design though has several additions and modifictions to the
circuit to ensure longevity, and to correct original design flaws. Rich
also plans to add manually variable shift points for turbo users (like
him) and a semi-automatic add-on. All this is really easy to achieve.
The point to this e-mail is to ask "is anyone interested"? To get 10 of
these made would be prohibitive in both time and money, however to get a
larger volume made would mean each one would be very inexpensive. Please

Subject: Rear Bumper Shipping
Has anyone ever mailed a rear fascia? I have one that I want to sell on
ebay that is all packaged up and ready to go on auction BUT....I took it
to a local shipping place that is a UPS agent and they said it was too
big. I want to get an accurate ship price but I have to imagine that
these things are shipped all the time from DMCH to other DMC vendors.
Any ideas? FED-EX ground?
Anyway, the fascia is is good shape with some scratches on some scuffing
on the black portion. There are NO tears and overall it's fine. The
bumper had stainless letters so the DELOREAN name insert was scuffed up
for better adhesion with the letter glue. it will need repainting. I
want $250.00 for it plus shipping if anyone is interested.

I just bought a LOCKZILLA unit to replace the original module. I was
quite impressed with the quality of the design, packaging and the ease
of installation as well as the flexibilty for add-ons.
Anyway......symptom I have is that the DRIVERS switch WILL lock and
unlock the passenger side. THE PASSENGER side switch will lock the
drivers side but will not unlock it. I bought 2 new solenoids as well.
Would this symptom be that only the PASSENGER side solenoid is bad?
What sends the signal to the other door to unlock? Is it the solenoid?
the control module? Both? I suppose I should replace the passenger
side first and see if it cures the problem. I'm just curious as to the
routing of the lock/unlock signal and how much the solenoid plays in
it. This happens with the new Lockzilla in place as well as the old
control module so I know it's not a module issue. The swithes are not
real switches right? This wouldn't be a problem as well would it?
I would ask Rob these questions but I know he's a busy guy. Rob did
mention that the Launcher should hopefully be ready for Christmas
shipping. Be patient. I'd rather it be 100% tested and ready than to
rush it.

I've been on this list for quite a awhile learning about the DeLorean.
I am working for a custom car parts fabricator making everything from
sheet-metal intakes to exhaust systems to turbo systems.
I was wondering if anyone had anything in mind, short of making new
stainless body panels, that they'd be interested in having made.
Something that comes to mind, are the sheet-metal air boxes, or maybe
a mutli-port efi intake, or a turbo kit, stainless exhaust..?

Chances are, everyone in your family and even a majority of your
friends know about DeLoreans in uttermost detail, whether you own one
or not. But I must ask you, do they like this constant bombardment
of facts, or do they nod their head with a slight smile, and in your

Dont throw me off the soap box yet, I have reasoning why fanatics of
anything sometimes annoy people.
Ok, I admit to chat peoples heads off about my beloved car-
(currently manufactured by Sun-Star, lol) But, this guy at work has
gotten me to rethink my strategy of advertising DeLorean. By all
standards, this guy is a war fanatic. He doesnt work, and always
chats to everybody about various wars and battles. Besides that, hes
the perfect co-worker. Half the time, I dont really get into what he
says. This guy has little clue that I'm not a war fanatic. I have
to ask myself, Am I annoying when I talk to people about my favorite
car?
My oppinion has changed. I wont chat about DeLoreans unless I'm
asked, and I sure bet I will be asked when I get my own DMC next year.
Ok, my 3 minutes on the soap box is over. Not a bad deal considering
it only cost me 2 cents.

I am guessing that the door lock module worked exactly the same way as
the Lockzilla you have now installed. If that IS true then you have
found out by now that Lockzilla can not fix a problem with the door
locks when they are out of adjustment. All you had to do was read the
directions that came with Lockzilla.
You will have to get out the Workshop Manual and go over ALL of the
internal door adjustments. It is probably the driver's door that
needs the help so do that one first. Before going inside the door
first make sure that the front and rear latches are both getting to
the 2nd lock position simultainiously. This may require loosening and
adjusting the anchor pins. The doors are not supposed to be able to be
locked if the door isn't closed all the way (on the 2nd lock
position). Most door problems can be traced to the anchor pins not
adjusted properly and then you wind up having to force the door open
and closed. This knocks all of the adjustments out of wack so even
after you get the anchor pins set right you find you have to go inside
the door anyway to "fix" the linkage adjustments. It is very important
that the doors not bang or clunk as they are closed. You also
shouldn't have to slam them to get them to lock. The locking system
isn't going to work right if this is the case.

IMHO getting the pdf file and seeing the book will just make you want
to get "the real deal". Every Delorean owner should probably have a
"real" copy. I find it a very valuable reference (even though there
are some minor errors). If you are patient you will find a copy for
less than $250. Having the pdf file given away free will just make
people want the book more therefore it won't hurt the value.

For those of you who may be interested, there in a D that will be available
soon for purchase near me in North Carolina. I don't have a lot of details
as of now, but will have all important information in the near future. This
car has approx. mileage of 10,400 miles with black interior and manual
transmission, VIN unknown at this time. Original owner purchased new in
Conn. Has had recent work done to it and is in drivable condition as stated
per owner. The car has "electrical gremlins" as stated per owner; window
regulators, power locks, and original radio problems. I have not had the
chance to view the car yet, but will do so as soon as possible. I don't even
know what the owner's asking price is. I just found this owner today and
offered my services to help him market the car. Those of you whom I have
helped in the past attain and/or sell DeLoreans in the past know I am very
thorough. Watch the DMCNews for sale page and this message board for more
info. If anyone wants more info quickly, contact me directly and I will see
what I can do to help.

I had a similar problem some time back on my high-mileage car. In my
case the root cause was that the door lock switch on the one side was
too sloppy to make a reliable connection when the switch is thrown.
The door lock switches a really quite cheezy and consist of a metal
wiper that rotates on a riveted pivot across a baseplate that has
three bumps on it. The wiper is wide enough to touch two of the three
bumps and the center bump is the ground circuit. The problkem I had
was that over time the wiper had lost some of its tension and was not
pressing securely against the bumps. Also the whole wiper had a lot
of slop in it.
You can veryify whether your door switches are bad without
dismantling your door by checking your wiring diagram and measuring
at the door lock module by unplugging it and measuring from the
connector contacts.

I'm not going to take sides in this argument here. Because I can honestly
agree with both. But, I do have one question. Exactly what makes the book
"Stainless Steel Illusion" so valuable? With a little searching @ local public,
and university libraries, one can almost always find the book. And there really
isn't a week that doesn't go by that a copy isn't for sale on eBay, along with the
classifieds on Amazon where there are ALWAYS multiple copies available.
I've read the book, and it is indeed a good one. It offers quite a substacial
amount of information of the history of the DeLorean in both text, and
pictorals. But the book is hardly what I would call "rare" given how easily it is
found online. And even though I would consider it a good book, it's not one
that I'm willing to pay $50+ for, let alone the typical $150+ reserve prices
found in nearly every auction.
Someone here mentioned that this is exactly like what happened with
Napster. I agree totally. But at the same time, you have to realize. If people are
going to constatnly keep trying to inflate the value of a popular item, others
will always circumvent it. Which is why when you look @ things, it's
understandable as to why online file sharing services have become so
popular. But to keep this argument on track, here's another senario.
A couple of years ago, the topic of a DeLorean font was raised. And quite a
few people expressed interest in it. @ the time, a company called Axe
Graphics had the font for sale for $30. Soon after though, the same exact font
became available online for free on people's personal websites. The same
with the Doubleback font for BTTF. But no one complained about these then,
nor have they since when they started to be shared publicly.
To be honest, I'm surprised that it's taken this long for someone to put SSI into
a shared document format. In this day and age, it's almost to be expected. I
don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, but I guess everyone just has to
take this as a lesson to be learned. If you're going to invest in something in the
future (not that books are exactly that lucrative), don't put money into anything
that could easily be replicated by technology, and diluted by mass
reproduction. Although to be honest, I don't see the asking prices for SSI to be
going down anytime soon. You might see the # of willing buyers go down, but
the sellers will absolutely cringe to lose any profit. They'll just wait until they
find that certain buyer.
In the end, is it "fair" that someone's "investment" may have been hurt? No, it's
not. But alot of things aren't fair. Ironicly, a while back, a discussion was here
on the list about diluting the marque of the DeLorean. Specificly the Tilley
Electric DeLorean. My thoughts were that it was wrong what the man was
doing, and that it was going to hurt the value of our cars. And the general
concensus @ that time was that I was over reacting, and it was nothing. Of
course no there seems to be more outcry about a simple 100MB file hurting
the value of a book, and people seem to be more upset about that. So all in
all, it seems more people here are concerned about a small book about our
cars, rather than our cars themselves. I think that our priorites here need to be
straightened out. If you really do want to keep the vaules of things up, then
more comtrol must be exerted over what information is distributed. After all,
they don't just call this the "Information Age" for nothing...

Subject: Weird Auto Box Question (definitely not the Governor Computer)
Hi all,
I recently had my auto box Computer changed for a custom made new
one here in the UK which has brought the car back to life after a
long spell of being stuck in 2nd or 3rd. Anyway the problem I now
have I am sure is not related to the CG unit, when I drive the car
on the motor way and I am overtaking someone I often find that 3rd
just hasn't got enough acceleration. At kick down the box shifts
from 2nd to 3rd at approx. 4000 rpm, but there is still more
acceleration in 2nd than 3rd up to about 4700 rpm.
I.e. When I overtake on the motor way, and I know it is safe, I will
manually shift the lever from 3rd to 2nd and overtake. However after
approximately 20 mins of driving I loose the ability to manually
shift the gears until the car has sat and cooled off (I CAN move the
stick but the gears won't change). During the period where I can not
shift manually the box will still kick down and shift correctly
using all 3 gears.
So it would appear to be a temperature related issue.
Any Ideas?
