Subject: Possible Serious Problem?

I took my DeLorean to the car wash a week ago and degreased the engine
with a pressure washer. After that it started sputtering and had a severe
loss in power. I pulled a few spark plug wires and of coarse determined
that the problem was water in the spark plug wells. I knew after seeing it
that I would have to disassemble the top of the engine to replace the
spark plugs and wires.

The possible problem is that tonight when I came back from the grocery
store I noticed the engine felt hotter than normal, so I opened the engine
bay. I was in shock as I saw that my header was red hot, glowing in the
dark of my garage! Have I damaged the engine by driving it just a few
miles in this condition? I'm pretty sure it's just fuel building up and
then burning hotter in one or more of the cylinders that doesn't fire
every revolution. But I'm worried it might have warped or damaged the
engine in some way!

Has anyone else experienced this? I checked the archives and all I could
find was mentions of a leaking header gasket causing the "glowing header".

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Hope all of you that ordered the magazine so far are enjoying it.

The feedback so far has been great and as we go we will be adding to the
magazine.
That in part is what this message is about.

We have come up with and idea for people wanting to sell their DeLoreans,
others wanting to buy and others just looking.
We don't want it to look like a classified section but we would like to
dedicate a page or two for these people. It would be called " IN FLUX "
and
you are welcome to send in a short description (with photo where possible)
of
what you are looking to sell or buy.

We will let this one grow as time goes on and see where it goes.

If any of you clubs out there want to be included send us your articles.
Its
open to EVERYONE.

Thanks and a Merry Christmas to all of you,

My present to you was the magazine so enjoy and we'll work on the next
issue.

We will have much more time on future issues. Putting a magazine together
in two months was quite an interesting task but we did it. Thanks
Josh!!!!!!

You don't need to disassenble the engine to change the ignition wires
although you will have to loosen the idle motor. You should be alright
after changing the wires and it is a good idea as long as you are
there to at least clean and regap the spark plugs if you aren't going
to replace them. Chances are you did no permanant damage to the engine
or catalytic converter but you probably burnt the outside of the
muffler up and maybe even damaged the heat shield. The muffler can be
repainted with high temp silver and the shield replaced. It is
asbestoes so try not to make a lot of dust when removing it and
immediatly place it in a double sealed plastic bag. Dispose of
properly according to local regs. Most areas have a hazardous pickup
site you can take it to. If you still want to take everything apart
you might consider doing a major service on the cooling system,
replacing the water pump, belts, seals, gaskets, and hoses. This will
get expensive so be prepared. It depends on if it was ever done. You
may also break some bolts in the process.

Just a note on the calendar.

The credit for the shots indicate where the pic was taken, not where
the owner lives. Sorry for any confusion.

O.K.

My turn. While filling up at the local gas station. An older gentleman
just stood by and stared at our car. I smiled at him and had no response
as he kept staring at the DeLorean. Getting kinda weird now as I kept
filling the tank while he would not even make eye contact but standing
very close to me. After fueling up and heading for my seat I made one
more effort to look at him. He finally looked at me and said.

It ain't got a lick of paint on it!

I just smiled.

I think it's time we had a section for this kind of stuff. It's all part
of owning the DeLorean in my opinion and we do all love it even if some
people don't want to admit it.

BTW, Just my opinion.

The best "duhhh" I ever had at the gas pump was in my first week of
ownership
of my DeLorean. At the time I was living in East Lansing Michigan (home
of
the infamous riot in which MSU students flipped a DeLorean) and I was at
the
gas pump filling the tank as usual... an older man (about 65 years old
or so)
walks over and starts asking questions about the car. First think out of
his
mouth is "Boy that sure is a neat car! ....is that a new electric car?"
...right as I'm standing there with gas nozzle in hand at a Mobil
station. It
was seriously hard not to laugh.

PS - VH1 will never apologize for what they allowed to go on air about
our
beloved DeLoreans... VH1 and Viacom couldn't give to craps about all the

victims families that are suffering every time they glorify murders and
rapists on that "prison rock" show they have been airing lately. All
they
were trying to do with those 80's programs are exploit the fads and
fashions
of the era, and make a mountain out of a mole hill by interviewing
"divas"
and plastering their half-witted opinion all over the show. As a law
student,
I dont seriously think that filing a class action would go anywhere, but
If I
were Tamir I certainly would give those bastards a call.

These are great stories, here's mine.

I'm at the gas station putting gas in mine when a guy with a Miata
walks over and POUNDS on the passenger side front fender with his
fist. He doesn't bother to look at me but turns away and says "Yep,
just what I thought, aluminum".
