Group,
While browsing the paper version of the Bavarian Motorsport May/June
specials catalogue, I noted a dash insert offered on their page 14. The
gauges are shown in blue, but the description says the color is instantly
switchable to green. The same switch determines the level of intensity.
While this catalogue is for BMWs this technology could be interesting for
livening up our humble Delorean dashes.

They ask for a year and model...I put in 1993 318i (they aren't made for all
years). Then I used the search window to find "Dash gauges". The items
shown can be enlarged, and they change color.
There is also an optional Aluminum gauge face. All require removal of the
needles to install and they include a tool to do so.
Maybe an entrepeneur among us would want to research the manufacturer or
technology.

I had the same problem with my Mercedes Key, neither Lowes
or Home Depot were set up for it. took it to a serious locksmith
who stuck it in a computer and basically scanned in the
scanned. they then took out the key and the scanning bit and
replaced with a blank key and cut bit. Then they downloaded the
scanned results back and it cut the key.
On a typical car key they just stick both on a sort of grinder and
make a duplicate this way the computer does all the work. The
difference when done byu hand on a grinder it's $2. When does
by the computer it's $20.
I sure someone else can do custom keys cheaper but I wouldnt
know ehere and this place is just down the street and I know
their work.

My local locksmith was easily able to make a copy of my door key (2-key
system). He just used a Volvo Key blank and it worked perfectly. However
he cut both sides of the key exactly the same and it still works. My
original door key is cut differently on either side but still works no
matter which side of the key I have up. Does this just mean I have a badly
worn lock cylinder?

I just got 2 new keys from Home Depot about 2 weeks ago. They used the
Axxess+ A-51R blanks. The "R" is for rubber-head. They were out of the
plain, metal-head A-51 blanks, but I liked the rubber headed ones better.
The guy told me that this was a key for a Lexus, but the machine didn't have
any problems and both keys work fine. The Axxess+ system tied together the
key blanks and the machine, so maybe it depends on if your store has this
system? Maybe with this information you could try Home Depot again?

I'm probably in need of a replacement clutch master cylinder. I've read
somewhere that you could use a Girling #74660158 as a good replacement.
Can anybody on the list confirm this? Maybe someone knows about another
replacement?
BTW. I know that the DeLorean parts are better bought from the 'official'
shops, but having the parts sent over to Europe just costs way too much (and
I mean taxes and transportation).

Subject: Cooling Fan and Air conditioning Question
Hi,
I just purchased a 1982 Delorean and after driving it long enough to get the engine hot the cooling fan came on, but since it came on it has stayed on. Any ideas as to what's wrong with it. Where should I start? I assume it should cut off once the temp drops back down below 220?
Also, the air in the car seems to cycle on and off. After driving and running the air for about 10-15 minutes, the fan/compressor? will cut off for about 10-20 seconds and then cut back on. I had a mechanic tell me that was ok, it was just the way it worked? Does this sound right? Any suggestions?

I don't care how new or "certified" your parts are. All it takes is a
TINY amount of dirt in a fuel line and now you have an injector with a
bad pattern. The point is you can't just throw new parts into a system
that has dirt in it and expect it not to screw up your new parts. With
all of the problems you have had with your fuel system I believe you
still have dirt in there that is now working it's way throughout the
system. As I have claimed in the past most fuel system problems start
in the fuel tank, meaning if there is ANY dirt in there it is
indicitive of dirt in the entire system and that means you must clean
out the entire system to remove ALL of the dirt. The good news is that
you can probably just clean the injectors and they will be OK but
unless you really clean out all of the system this will keep
happening. Chemical treatments won't usually fix problems with dirt.
They are meant for cleaning systems that have gummed up from old fuel,
not inorganic forgein matter. I don't think they have yet made
"Mechanic in a bottle".

hey all...
I have had my DMC for a little over a year... got a pretty rare one
(early VIN #855, gas flap, black leather interior, and auto)...
I was told these are all rare traits (the gas flap and black
interior being the most rare, and the auto was the second most
rare)..
The car is also in show-room new condition, with not even creases in
the seats from being sat in... the leather is as smooth as a babies
butt.
the MAJOR selling point for me was the mileage, only having 4300
miles on it when I got it....
I not have about 5100 on it now.... I specifically never drive it (I
start it once a week, and take it around the block a few times)
because of the low mileage.
It runs superb, I am the second owner, and the first owner did the
same thing I do to it (that's where I got the care instuctions)...
for the most part, I have updated a lot of stuff that needed it,
keeping all original parts.... I needed a headlight switch,
brakelight switch, tankzilla (i guess thats not really OEM), the
tail light circuit boards from PJ Grady (again I guess not OEM, but
I still have the originals of all those parts)...
the air is ice cold.... it's my dream machine...
And to put it blatently - it drives me nuts not driving it!!!!!
My wife told me to sell it, and get one that I do not need to worry
about the mileage on so I can enjoy it....
I know this car has been babied.... I want to drive it, but because
of mileage, I can't....
My question is this..... does low mileage really mean anything???
Would I be ok driving this on the weekends like I want to, or should
I buy another Delorean for that, and shrink-wrap this one in a
carcoon?
opinions appreciated.... is it really worth me keeping the mileage
low, and drooling over my own car because I don't want to drive it
and run up the miles?

Someone recently asked about DeLoreans in the Middle-East!?! In the June'02
issue of "Thoroughbred and Classic Cars" (page 22) it shows an 'abandoned'
'82 in its 'discovered' section.
She has been badly sprayed red. The photo shows the paint lifting off the
bonet in a single sheet! It notes there was at least 7mm of primer and top
coat used to try and bond it to the stainless! Its a sad looking lhd
DeLorean but supposedly complete and restorable.

No, your cylinder isn't worn. Well,it may be, but the key working that way
doesn't necessarily mean it is worn.
It you examined the key there are probably five or six bits (cuts) that are
the same and in the same position. Only those bits are used, the rest are
superfluous for that particular lock and are used in other locks on the car.
I do some locksmith tinkering... I bought a mess of the volvo blanks and am
(but haven't in a while) making a set of depth gauges so that I can cut keys
back to original depths. It probably would be easier to just pull my
headliner and see if I have my key-code and go to a fully stocked
locksmith... but even then, he may not be able to help everyone, which is
what I would like to be able to do.

DRIVE IT!!! My Car has 14000 Original miles on it the seat are perfect as is
the rest of the car. It isn't original becaused of the twin turbos but looks
great. You but the car to have something cool, must attention getting car on
the road. Enjoy it the money you save on apprieciation isn't worth the missed
enjoyment
