To update everyone.
This symptom was caused by a broken trailing arm bolt. I put the car on a
rack today, and first checked out the front suspension.
It was OK. In shaking the right rear wheel, it moved forward and aft about
1". As it turned out the right TAB bolt was actually broken, which makes
some sense given the symptoms.
Needless to say the car is parked and new TAB's have been ordered for both
sides.
I'm a firm believer now in checking the TAB's.
Also a bit shaken. Last week I drove over 500 miles on Interstate 70. I
shudder to think what would have happened if a failure would have occurred
at 75+ mph.

Ok... for those of us who aren't that knowledgeable about the TABs (well,
ok, maybe it's just me), could someone provide a "TABs for Dummies"
step-by-step explanation on how to check them? I know the general area
where they are, but what tools do I need, what do the shims look like
(photos?), etc, what is "good" versus "bad" versus "unsafe"? I can easily
jack up the car and would like to check these before my trip to Memphis.

I noticed that as I test drove a Delorean that I am considering buying

the tips of the hood (front left and right edges where the hood meet the
windshield) bounce a little in the wind, is this normal?? is this
fixable??

It did for me. My T-panel was warped upwards a bit in the back, and it
had
bent the plastic screen over time, but the only real concern I had about
it
was that it made the louvers rub against the T-panel when opening.
Once the T-panel was removed, however, it was easy to see the root cause
--
the steel plate that holds the rear ends of the torsion bars was pulling
away from the fiberglass. I couldn't believe the thing was actually
*glued*
down, considering the amount of stress it's under.
The fix is actually pretty easy (if you're comfortable with removing the
torsion bars), and can be found in the tech section of the DMCNews site:

Once this was complete and the T-panel was flat again, the plastic screen
went back on without much trouble. Mine was pliable enough to pull fairly
straight again without applying any heat. Bending the stainless clips on
the T-panel a little will help pull the plastic into shape, but if it's
warped badly you'll probably have to drill a new hole or two.

This was the case on my car until I readjusted the hood latch. I always
had
problems with water getting in the trunk especially after washing the car.
Any water running down the windshield went into the trunk. I tested the
gasket with a dollar bill and found that there was plenty of room for the
bill to slip through. I then noticed that the gasket was glued in the
wrong
place (too far out), so I pulled it off and glued it back on. It was
falling off anyway. I believe it was put on this way from the factory.
But
this still didn't fix the problem. With the gasket in the right place the
hood still wouldn't grab a dollar bill. I tried adjusting the catch down,
but it wouldn't go down far enough. I took it apart, filed the adjustment
slots to go down further and this FINALLY fixed the problem. Now I
understand that this is a common problem, but easily fixable.
