Actually, it isn't truly a "factory" turbo. DMC had farmed this out to a
sub-contractor: Legend Industries. There were supposed to have been two
prototypes with twin turbos and intercooled. Nice setup. DMC just sent them
a couple of the first cars off the line to work with. So the factory never
did anything with the turbos. It was all done at Legend.

I heard once that Legend went under when DMC went bankrupt. Supposedly too
much invested in the project and they never got paid by DMC. This part is
just hearsay, so if anyone knows differently I'll be glad to find out.   :)

There is a picture of the Legend setup in Stainless Steel Illusion. I'll
scan it and post it on the Mid-State DeLorean Club site today. Look in the
Gallery section.

My right side water pipe was lower also, so I replaced my connecting hose
(RH) and loosened the upper connector then pushed up on the pipe, now both
sides are the same distance from the ground.

Subject: The Resurrection of Vixen Continues...

Hi All,

As time is getting short, I've been maniacally slaving away in the garage trying to get "The Vixen" (#05927) finished in time for Memphis.  Last Saturday was a big day, as I mounted and aligned the doors, and adjusted the torsion bars so they now go up & down rather smoothly.

I still haven't put the back window in yet (doing that tonight with urethane windshield adhesive), but I figured that any changes in alignment that might happen due to the glass being installed would be minimal, so doing a "rough" alignment with the glass out would help reduce the possibilty of any breakage.  I know the chances are minimal if you use the correct tooling and jig, but I'm still a bit paranoid about breaking it anyway.  (A big thanks goes out here to Pete Lucas who let me borrow his very nicely-built jig for this procedure.)  I'll do a "final alignment" when all the glass is in, and a final torsion bar adjustment when the doors are 100% back together.

Question though:  Should I install the front windshield now, or wait until all of the interior (like the dash pad) is installed first?

Anyway, having the doors on now paves the way for me to complete the mounting of the remaining stainless, and is the big psychological boost I needed to make me feel like I'm actually getting somewhere.

I managed to con my girlfriend into spending a nice, quiet evening with a bottle of "Goo-Be-Gone" and my door seal mounting areas, cleaning off all of the old adhesive and muck.  She actually enjoyed it (much to my surprise) so I'm going to set her to clean some interior components next.

My engine problems seem to have cleared up quite a bit since my engine barbeque of last week.  I'm a bit confused by that, but happy nonetheless.  Also, my Lockzilla arrived today, so that should be going in tonight as well.

Bob Miller has loaned me a regraining tool, so I'll likely be spending Saturday or Sunday getting the stainless all prepped and ready for the installation of the new fascias.

I've been burning through cash & credit like crazy here in the last month... spent $2000 already, and will probably spend another $2000 tomorrow as I'll be placing an order with DMC Houston for the rest of my interior components and some miscellaneous stuff... I believe that puts me at about $21k invested so far, and there's miles to go before I sleep.  It's hard to tell which I might run out of first -- time, energy, money.  All are getting to be in short supply with 26 days left to go before we leave for the show.

Will I get done in time?  Still up in the air... but wish me luck!

Do I take this to mean you have a jig for installing the fixed door glass? Could you post a photo as the pass door glass has been falling in since I got my car - I'd love some ideas on a jig.

Certainly had no trouble removing the broken one on #2727 and installing a new one with the interior intact (and perfect). We did get a local mobile bloke to come and do it though.

*LOL* - I found the same thing with my mate Steve (owner of RHD #6896) - removing the old goo off my car with thinners. He was getting quite merry by the second door!

Dave remind me I owe you at least a beer or two when we meet at Memphis!

Subject: Overheating Fuel Tank.

So far, my car has been ok thru the early summer heat. But
Tuesday I had to make a trip across town forr my job. And I had
the car parked outside the whole day. Long story short, my fuel
pump became quite noisy. So much so to the point where I coulf
feel the vibration from the fuel line thru the center console!
Durring this time, I also noticed that my voltage took a severe
drop @ idle. With the A/C on, and the fan on speed 2, the needle
was down to the 2nd mark  on the voltmeter! Usually I can only
hit that mark with the fan on 4, rear defroster, and all clearance
lamps & high beams on! So, my guess is not that the fuel hose
is collapsing ( there is a spring installed), but that the excess
heat in the tank is causing the internals of the pump to expand,
and thus grind making the sound. The kicker though, was this.
When I parked the car for 20 minutes, and got back in, the sound
was worse! After driving about 4-5 miles, it did quiet back down a
bit. But did not improve from where it was before. With the
exception of after I parked the car, and until the fuel cooled a bit,
the accelleration on my car was fine.

Now, from all this, I have determined the following:
1. A noisy fuel pump isn't always due to a collapsing fuel pick-up
hose.
2. Air flow from the front radiator is NOT heating the fuel. When I
stopped the air flow, the noise became worse. It wasn't until I
restored air flow that there was a sign of cooling.

So, I've determined that the heat MUST be comming from the
coolant pipes that run along the sides of the fuel cell (I do
believe that Walt mentioned this one before). So, now  I have the
following questions. I've seen ads that giving a ceramic coating
to exhaut pipes helps to keep the heat inside of them, and
reduces the heat in the engine compartment. Does this really
work? If so, can I expect the same results for the two sections of
pipe next to the tank? This is the only "safe" solution that comes
to mind. I've no idea what kind of a reaction household insulation
would have with high water temps and/or chemicals found in
that region of the car.

Venting the tank to air flow is another entire possibility, but I have
concerns about aerodynamics and compromising the integrity of
the plate protecting the tank on the bottom.

Ideas?

Dave,

Definitely wait until after the dash is together.  The 97 Delorean
needed a new winshield and we left it out until after all was put
together.  I can not imagine how difficult it would be do mount the dash
pad with the winshield in place.

Adam,

i have found that the best thing to do is to first use some DMC Stainless Car
Shampoo, and then while it is wet, spray the affected area with Eagle One A-Z
All Wheel Cleaner.  the wheel cleaner works AWESOME for removing grease, tar,
FINGERPRINTS, just about anything that won't come off completely with water.
wipe the area all over with a wash rag, rinse the stainless, and dry with a
towel.  you will be amazed!

I'm looking at a Delorean here in MN and I have a suspicion that it
has a blown head gasket. Does anyone here have a quick way i can
check on a D without bringing it to a mechanic?

just wondering

Subject: Room at the Heartbreak Available

I have the luxury suite at the Heartbreak that I had been holding for John.
If anyone is interested it is available.
My suggestion is if there are four Parties that go in together this could be
a good deal.  It has two kitchens, three baths and a lot of room
It is the luxury suite pictured on the Deloreancarshow.com hotel page.  It is
theone that looks like a queen victoria suite
If you are interested
DO NOT call the Hotel
it is in My name and I will change it over for you just e-mail me because I
will probably want at least one of the rooms the party getting the suite will
be giving up.

Thanks

Ken

Subject: DeLoreans from DMC Houston

Upon buying a DeLorean from DMC Houston, a few questions come to mind
that some owners may know.  When the cars are refurbished, do they
come with the minor upgrades such as the SS surge tank and fuel
return line?  What about the door handles and the window mechanism.
I hear new parts are available in all metal with no plastic parts.
Are these new parts incorperated into the refurbished care?  Anyone
who knows, please write back.  Thanx for your time.
