JVC GR-C1 "VideoMovie"
It was the first all-in-one camcorder, introduced in March of 1984. It
uses VHS-C tapes, and was very high-tech for 1985; an obvious choice for
"Doc Brown". Most consumer video cameras before that time used a
seperate VCR that you carried with a shoulder strap.
Zenith had an identical camcorder (JVC under another name), and is
identical except for its silver-gray color.

When I first got my Delorean the seats looked OK but were very hard and
brittle. I bought a product called Gliptone which is advertised in most
UK classic car magazines. It consists of a leather cleaner, color
restorer and a treatment that helps the leather regain most of its
original suppleness. It takes quite a while to correctly clean and
treat the seats but the results are fantastic. It also gives your seats
a nice 'new' leather smell.
I'm sure the company that makes it has a web site, I'll find out what
it is and post it.

In taking out the steering column and replaving it, the windshield
wiper switch on the right hand side of the column fell apart. I have
all the parts but we couldn't figure out how to put it back together
again. I reattached it but it only works for a few wipes when I push
it in to activate the washer. Does anyone know where I can get an
assembly or can anyone explain how it goes back together?

Walter,
When designing and installing the full size power windows for the 97™ DeLorean, I ran
into the same concerns. I noticed that the heavy duty replacement drives as well as the
stock equipment occasionally hit the outer door skin during operation.
The main reason I found for this was the difference in curves of the outer skin and the
slight flexing of the shaft for the spring worm drive depending upon the friction of the
window in its tracks.
I decided to braze a plate to the back of the tube shaft to prevent the flexing. This
also allowed me to curve the shaft to EXACTLY fit the curvature of the door skin. This
gave me the room to fit in the full size windows.

This weekend while fixing a rear CV boot I found a nasty problem.
My LH (driver's side) manual transmission bracket is in 3 pieces.
It's been welded at least a half-dozen times and is now unusable.
Unfortunately none of the vendors have this part. I also checked
with a local junkyard that had a DeLorean but they don't have the
part either. I'm hoping that someone has a parts car or misc stash
with this part who would be willing to sell it to me. The part
number (for database lookup) is 106341. Please email me privately

I have have this exact same problem, and asked the exact same question
about a month ago. I didn't get a response. I will most likely be

The DMC manual states that toe in should be set to 3 degrees. How
specifically is this measured? I want to make sure I thoroughly
understand this before I take it to a less than Delorean familiar
shop to have it done.
Is this measurement taken from the centerline formed by both axles?
In which case the straight ahead wheel centerline would be at 87
degrees from the chassis axle centerline, instead of 90 degrees?
Is it 3 degrees per wheel, or 3 degrees total? In which case it would
be 1.5 degrees per wheel, or 88.5 degrees per wheel?
As usual any help would be appreciated...

I use State Farm for insurance on my daily drivers. However, when I
got my D. a couple of weeks ago I insured it through them and they
wanted $900 for 6 months!!! That's right, not for a year, FOR 6
MONTHS! Even though I am 23, you are only two years younger and
getting it at half price, and I don't even have any speeding tickets
(well, there was that one little fender bender, but my 1977 Chevy
Blazer 4x4 didn't feel a thing). I have been happy with State Farm so
far, but I think now, after hearing what people are paying to insure
their D's I will go to State Farm tomorrow and have a long talk with
my agent.

You may want to look at one of the Kenwood units. I have one on my
car, and it really doesn't stand out. I's also adjustable so that you
can get the angle of which the faceplace flips around to fit flush
with the console. If you're really a stickler, I'm sure that you
could even texture the front to match the matte finish.

Don't know if this would do you any good but there was a recient post from a
guy in Seattle that was looking for some type of bracket. He mentioned a
car in a junkyard out there. Maybe you could contact him to get the
junkyard's number if all else fails. If you need help getting his email
address form the Yahoo site, let me know (I wrote him to see if he recalled
whether or not that car had louvers).
One other option to consider is one of those new "invisible" radios. When
off the face plate hides so it looks like an empty (black) slot.
As a side note, I had never heard your comment about the punch bowl before.
Almost fell out of my chair laughing. Will keep that tucked away for future
reference.

Aaron,
I'm sorry to hear of your accident. What I gather from your note is that
you are OK and that is the most important thing. That said there is two
major points I feel you MUST keep in mind.
First, insurance companies are in business to make money. One way they do
this is by keeping claim payouts down. Bottom line is know what you are
signing, keep good records, take pictures, and call on the expert vendors if
it appears the company is trying to short change you. You know what is
right for your car and if the insurance company is doing something wrong,
that is when you need the lawyer.
Second, NEVER sign a release for the insurance company to get your medical
records without a lawyer's advice. I had what I considered a minor accident
and being the good guy decided to handle it myself. They sent me a release
and I signed.
A couple months later my left side (mostly neck) started hurting and I
started dropping things. Went to the doctor and bottom line was I had a
problem causing a minimum of 5% disability unquestionably related to the
accident and a total disability of 15+% most of which was likely related to
the accident.
Because I had signed the release, the insurance company dug up my medical
records back to my teens (I'm 41 and was in a accident when I was 16 I
believe). They got their experts to relate every incident in my whole life
(twisted knee, torn cartilage, strained back, …) to that disability. I even
had a doctor, acknowledged as a medical expert by the insurance company, to
testify that the other injuries couldn’t have caused the damage shown in my
MRIs. To make a long story short, my lawyer gave up and I got $5k.

Paul Salsbury got an exact replacement from a scrapyard from a 1983 mini. Cost about £5.
Oh the fun of cross-referencing parts.... We both got a rear view mirror for £5 out of an
80's Ford (Granada or Escort). Exact match! Anyone know what the older style door locks
came from?
