Hi Walt,

Well "minimal" plate deflection is just that - a slight deflection of
the pressure plate (hoping to mimic a light throttle increase).  What
happens is a few injectors vibrate and spray, a few do not, one
dribbles. Pressing the plate further, they all spray just fine.

The Fuel Distributor is in nearly immaculate shape. The Piston is
clean, smoothly machined and tighly but accurately glides up and down
through it's motion.

Again, what the car does:it idles fairly smooth, heavy accelleration
is quick and smooth, decelleration is steady and smooth. But light,
part-throttle acceleration and cruising is choppy - the engine bucks,
and studders. Exhaust smells extremely rich, and backfires once in a
while on light throttle or cruising. (Never under heavy acceleration.)

I'll probably use your soaking advice as a last resort, because it
appears so clean and the fact that when I do depress the pressure
plate moderately to heavily - I get 6, nice, equal sprays - of equal
volume. (This leads me to believe the system is not clogged).  As for
shimms, it didn't have them ever. However, you may be right on the O-
ring. It may be out of shape and need to be replaced.

John Hervey's suggestion of swapping around the injectors (one's that
work in positions that didn't work) is so logical - I missed that
very obvious course!  (DUoah!) I'll do that this evening and see what
it yeilds. That will at least be a sure-fire check of bad injectors.

Hrmm, I thought that looked a little strange when I pulled my fuel pump
out for the first time this past weekend. Yes, I had an inch or two of gas
on top of my fuel pump, right where the 2 wires connect to it. I imagine
it's a leak where the hoses connect inside the fuel pump boot. What should
be used to seal these 2 connections better?

How dangerous is this? I've been driving the car like this daily for quite
a while.

Just a reminder about the BTTF Delorean. It will be at the Exposition
Center Jan 19-27. There will be a dinner with Bob + Gail Brandys

Being on the east side of the country myself, I can relate to the
problem of buying a west coast DMC-12. (read: I haven't bought one yet.)
There was one I was considering in Stockton, California, which I saw an
advert for online. Here's the URL. He doesn't say whether it's stick or
auto, but my guess is stick unless otherwise mentioned. Also since this
man has owned it for 15 years, I would expect the repair history will be
easy to get. ;)

I saw this ad at least a month ago so I would check to see if it is
still available. If it is, in my humble opinion, you'll be getting a
hell of a deal. I would have bought it if I could have raised the money
and I live in New Orleans!

And I would have no qualms about buying a car in California. I'm sure
you could find a fellow DeLorean enthusiast in the area who could help
you inspect the car, etc. (unless you've already owned one and know what
to look for).

Hi all,

I don't know if you can get Autoglym products in the States but they
do a leather cleaner and a care cream. I use the cream and cleaner
on my seats every few months and they have make them feel much more
supple and they smell like new.

Autoglym also do a fantastic car shampoo which leaves the stainless
body and the wheels looking amazing.

Oh and did I forget to mention the bumper care cream, which, yes you
guessed it, is also from Aytoglym.

In case you haden't realised I love autoglym stuff.

P.S. I still haven't found a really good stainless polish, I have
been told by a few people that Mr Sheen was good but I have used it
several times and it fails to give a very good shine.

What does everyone else use?

Hey List,

     I just created the poll for this poster.  If I could ask 5 minutes of
everyones time to just take a look at the pictures and then answer the poll
for me.  I really need to have a rough idea if there is a demand for this
poster before I go through the upfront expense of making these posters up. 
Another note I would like to add, the pictures don't really do the drawing
justice, it is a lot better in person than on the pictures.  Thanks and

Subject: Possibility of new poster?

Hey List,

    For christmas, my cousin drew a gorgeous picture of a De Lorean for me. 
I have been told that I should make it into a poster so other De Lorean
owners and enthusiasts might like to have a copy of this drawing hanging on
their wall as well.  I just uploaded 2 pictures of the drawing onto the
Yahoo! groups section of the web page.  It is located in the pictures section
under the folder "Drawing".  Before I go through the expense of making this
into a poster, I really need to see if anyone is really interested in having
this as a poster to hang on their wall.  I am going to set up a poll to see
if there is a demand for this.  After I set up the poll, I will let the list
know.  In the mean time check out the drawing and let me know what you think
of it!

Hey all,

i've had my engine taken somewhat apart all winter now because i'm putting in
a new water pump and working on my fuel injection.  anyway, i had my dirty
old manifold at a local engine shop for restoration.  they soaked it in a
chemical bath, baked it, glass-beaded it, then painted it.   i have uploaded
pictures of it to the yahoogroups photo album under the folder 'intake
manifold'.  let me know what you think of it!

The fuel pressure to the injectors should be consistent across all 6
injectors at all times. If equal pressure increases across all injectors
simultaneously, and some injectors open before others, then there is a
problem with one or more of the injectors. All injectors should open at the
same pressure and at the same time.  If the pressure at the injectors is not
the same across all 6 injectors, then there is most likely a problem with the
fuel distributor. Each injector at the distributor has its own orifice and
matching shim. Shims are not interchangeable. If someone shuffled the shims
during a rebuild, then the only way to fix it is to rebuild repleatedly
trying all possible shim location combinations until the distributor flows
properly. You can talk to SuperTec in Costa Mesa Ca. They rebuild these and
know quite a bit about how they work. 714-429-1863

cleaner.  I'm waiting for warm weather so I can get the "Steam Effect"

Eric, Inside the fuel distributor is a barrell that the control
plunger goes up and down in. The metering slits are .2mm opening.
When the plunger goes up and if there is any obstruction at the slit
area, then gas won't flow through correctly. Thats why I said, Put
some B12 in the gas and go drive it out and then come back and check
it again. Go back to the injectors that that weren't blowing right at
the beginning and see if it's changed. If not and the pressure is
correct and the injector swaping didn't show a bad injector. Then I
can rebuild the Fuel dist.Be carefull soaking in B12. It's good for
cleaning, but if you soak to long the o rings could swell. There
could also be a small break in the SS diaphram that seperates the
lower chamber from the upper chamber.

Before you do anything, check the hood release cable at the lever
where the nut holds it tight. When my cable broke, it really didn't
break, the nut came loose on the lever and the cable was just sliding
in the hole in the bolt. Maybe you will be a lucky one and have the
same problem. To fix, make sure the lever is in the rest position,
pull on the end of the cable to take up the slack and tighten the
nut. I hope this will do the trick for you.
