I have one more question. Isn't there a website that you can download copies of the stickers that go
on the engine cover? I seem to remember a site but I can't seem to find it. I might be wrong about this,
that's been known to happen before. If there is a site could someone let me know please. Thanks.....

Whenever I find a DMC site that I want to save to my favorite places
it will only save the dmc.tv site. I have tried different approches
but it always brings me to the dmc.tv site. (Nothing against the
dmc.tv site, but I don't need ten of them in my favorite places.

Subject: Engine adjustment question

When I got this car it was a basket case, when the engine would not
start I palyed with every thing to try to get it to start, (there was
a hidden kill switch and a cut coil wire), I would like to know what
are the basic settings I should use for the emmssions. There are
three strange looking screws (part #102391, PLUG) on the throttle
valve assy. I cannot find a clear answer on what these are and what
the adjustments should be. Can I buy the tools I need to adjust the
emissions on this car. (In my State Mass. this car is excempt from
the emissions test because of it's year, 1983 and older.)
Thanks.

Subject: Take two D's - call me in the morning

They should prescribe Delorean's for depressant
medication...

My wife is out of town with my son until 8/11 - been
gone since 6-1....

Needless to say, things are lonely.... been spending
most of my spare time with the car, washing her,
working on her, etc.

Well today I decided to wash her up like she was when
I got her... 4 hours I spent on the D at the car
wash... in that time must have had atleast 20 people
come up and talk about it... sharing stories, etc.
Felt real good to have something that brings so much
pleasure to not only me, but other people...

After that, I went to Walmart, and, I park in the back
of the store at the "lube express" so I dont get
dinged with car doors, etc.  (lots less people parking
back there)... as I get out (and this is a first for
me), I hear yelling from the garage, "no way!!!  and
this girl comes running out, "Oh my God!  Is that???
Oh My God, it is!  It's an actual real Delorean!"

Never had a female make a big deal out of it (well
except the hooters one, and that was different, cuz
this girl LOVED the car)...

Her boss came out and told her to get back to work and
I told him I was asking her questions about the
mechanics, etc of the car for an oil change (believe
me, I would NEVER take it to walmart for an oil
change, but wanted to keep her out of trouble)...

anyhow we talked awhile, I shared the history of the
car and JZD with her, and she almost broke into tears
when she found out the fate.... she thought they were
still being made, and actually thought I had just
bought mine when she saw the low miles... she had a
nissan 240sx which she was real proud of, and she
invited me out to the "cruise" strip.. which basically
is a street here in Abq, NM where people park in the
parking lots and show off their cars....

I'm older than most of them (I am 28, average age
there is probably 18-20), but, I had nothing else to
do, and I had just shined her up, so I was game...

about 9pm or so I headed out and was driving, and met
her at the McD's on the corner - and she was there
with her friends, and as soon as I pulled in I heard
her tell her friends, "I TOLD you I saw one!"...

anyhow, I got out, and for a few hours all of us
talked, and news spread quickly about the car, people
from the entire 7 mile strip of road were coming to
see it.... and these were younger kids...

After tonight - my opinion of the "youth" of today has
changed.... most of these kids were so friendly, and
were so greatful that they got to see a D.... nobody
their had seen one in real life, with the exception of
maybe 5 or 6 who had been to Universal Studios, and
never had got to see a real one, just the mockup they
have there.

When I take the D out, its amazing, I dont need to
tell you all this, because it happens to you too...
but I am so proud to have it, and it makes me feel so
good about myself.  I made a lot of friends tonight...
nothing long term probably, but these are people whom
I would have never met had I not had this car out...

Every night I can't believe I ever considered selling
my baby... I can't explain the high I feel when I
drive her - and there are no words that can explain
the warm feeling I get when I look at it in a parking
lot, or I see people that stop, or actually pull over
to look at her.

So, if you're ever feeling depressed, or maybe just
like something is missing in life, take your D out -
it possesses something that I've seen nowhere else...
nothing duplicates the feeling it gives me when I take
her out, not food, not the best alcohol, and, I don't
do drugs, but I am sure not even the finest
anti-depressents could compete with the warm feeling
you get when someone comes up and says, "Wow!  I can't
believe I am looking at a real Delorean."

I wonder if JZD still has one....I just can't see
anyone getting rid of one, especially the man who
dreamed it up, and blessed is with it's presence.

Christian,
The only Delorean tow truck that I have seen (in person) was a mock up, not
to be used in real towing. I know of one Delorean that tows a trailer, so yes
it is possible, but the trailer is a small one and doesn't carry a lot of
weight. If I am incorrect on any of these points, someone with more info
please let the list know. The only reason I point this out is about once a
year this question of tow truck and the stretch limo Delorean come up. My
point being the tow truck, stretch limo, and the cars from the movies Back to
the Future all have one thing in common. They are made to look like they can
do something that they cannot do. I think all will agree that they look good,
but look is as far as it goes.

Hi Evan,

I have the same problem/need myself. My HongKong DeLorean had been converted
using a series of dodgie looking knuckle joints, etc ... a set-up I wouldn't
feel comfortable driving with. Now that she is to be 100% resurected I'm
looking for the same info as you.

There is an enthusiast in the DOC UK Club seeking this info in Britain but
not sure how far his enquiries have progressed. There were rumours it was
off an early '80s British Ford (Capri, Cortina?).

Any word from the British DMCers on this? Calling ChrisP, DaveH, et al ...

I know of a guy around where I live that puts flat bar stock in the inner
crease of the top of the fascia. This forces the top of the fascia to conform
with the straight flat bar stock. It really worked a lot better than I
thought it would, I have seen him draw people's fascias back out to near
straight. The inner crease that I am talking about is right above the
headlights if you reach back along the underside of the top of the fascia.
Otherwise, fascias are for sale, but are quite $$$ or about $640.

Apparently, JZD is maintaining a secluded location due to his financial
troubles as no one on this list can provide his location (email or snail
mail POC...or even JZD's 'PMB mailing' location to protect his privacy which
is understandable) to obtain an autograph...or at least no one is sharing
this information publically or privately who does know.  Makes you wonder...

Subject: Hot start

Hello list,

I replaced my acumulator and still had the hot start problem.
Next I got the pressure gauge on the car and all tested fine no loss
of pressure.
Now after looking at the engine I have noticed the full throtle
microswitch is broken so I have disconected it for now.
Also Have adjusted the co mix.
Funny but for the last few times of starting when hot all seems well.
Now when I start up the car starts whithout me touching the throttle
when before on hot starting I had to pump the pedal to get it going
eventuly.

So my question is would a full throttle switch stop the car from
starting?

Any Thoughts Thanks.

If you go to Home Depot and by a thin bar stock about 3ft in length, you can cut it to about 1ft lengths, remove the headlights and clamp the fascia GENTLY (as in not to scuff it with the clamps) it can help if the eyebrow is really bad, the head lights should be removed from the car.  I would be more than happy to discuss with anyone the procedures that I have tried to remove my wretched eyebrows, but I am in an internet cafe in spain right now and need to go, bye

Subject: Diodes in courtesy light circuit

Hello everyone,

This may seen like a stupid question, but I'd like to
know what diodes are for the courtesy and door lights...
I need to know for a little project with a new
interior lights delay I'm working on.
When searching the partmanual I found a total of 8 diodes in the car,
which I think are assigned like this;
- 2 behind the passenger seat for the separation
of AC and otterstat signal to the fan relay
- 1 behind the drivers seat that has something to do
     with the idle circuit
- 1 behind the dashboard for the Door Ajar light
- 1 for the Lock Doors light behind the center console
- 3 behind the console protruding from the main harness.

I assume these last three diodes are the ones I'm after,
but I'd like to be sure before I open up the console...
Looking at these positions for all those parts did make
me realise why my first attempt for a replacement delay unit
didn't really work: there's too much wire in between the
switches, the delay and the lights; the replacement unit
seems to be very sensitive to resistance in the feed wires...

Thanks in advance,

JAN van de Wouw

Why not put the Hot-Start activation switch on the throttle?  This way, the
Hot-Start relay would only activate when the engine is cranked AND the
throttle is wide-open.

Let me know privately if you have any interest in a chat room, perhaps
on a weekly Schedule.  Many, many years ago (in a galaxy far, far,
away...oops, wrong turn!) before TV came upon the scene, I worked the 10
meter band.  Among the fun things were scheduled contacts with others in
different parts of the world.   I think it would work well in the D
world, I know it would for me, quick responses from differing points of
view, things you wouldn't bring up on the list for fear of looking like
a fool, etc.

Any takers?         Les

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice, I did a pressure test on the
engine, found two leaks right next to the water pump. That was a big duh on
my part. Secondly, I have installed DMCJoe's overheat protector, this seems
to have fixed my problems for now. Thanks.

This sounds good, but if you look on the antifreeze
bottle, the more water you put in it, (they have a
chart), 50/50 offers less protection than 70/30 (a
significant amount less), so I would think pure would
give the best protection.

I disagree.... in my IROC I lived in Florida and was
told, "you can just run straight water down here,
hiyuk! hiyuk! hiyuk!"

Well - fine and dandy, but one of the major things
antifreeze does is protect against rust and corrosion.

within 6 months I was replacing a radiator and water
pump because the water had rusted the water pump, and
a chunk broke off and got lodged in the radiator.

spend the extra 3 bux and get the antifreeze... it
will save you in the long run.
