On April 22, the Northern California DeLorean Motor Club will be meeting In
Sacramento for a tour of the Towe Auto Museum, the State Railroad Museum and
to have lunch in Old Sacramento. Our meet will start 10:00AM at the Towe and
after a tour of the museum we'll drive up to Old Sacramento for lunch and a
tour of the largest railroad museum in the West.
We'll be discussing the continuing plans for the West Coast
DeLorean/Bricklin Car Show on September 20-23. The 2 banquets have been
arranged and we're working on the driving tours. Prices should be set soon
for the events and we're also working on our guest list. Reservations for
the hotel can now be made for only $74 a night at (925) 867-9200.
Registration for the event will be ready late May/early June.

Others will probably be able to give more complete info then I'm able
to when it comes to cleaning the parts of the fuel system. But I can
give you this much advice; If you want to test out procedures first,
or you just want to try various posibilities for cleaning, or you
just plain want to see how things work, head to the junkyard. Before
you test any of your own components, try any experiments out on an
old Volvo 260, or 760 system first. With the exception of a different
engine compartment, you'll swear you're looking at a DeLorean engine!
The K-Jetronic system is almost a mirror image. (minus the
distributor and the CPR which are usually stripped!).

Hi all,
I have just uploaded two files to the files section in a folder named "James
RG's File" the 1st one is of my thermal trip which has 4 connections for
some reason rather than the two shown in the manual, I was wondering if
anyone could tell me why this is.
The 2nd is of my electrical compartment behind the passenger seat as I would
like to see if I have the fan fail relay upgrade in place, I am not sure
where it is supposed to go or if it has actually been installed.

Andy, I won't say it can't happen. But remember. There is a filter
sreeen on the fuel tank side of the pump. Think about it, how would
anything large enough to stop up the fuel system get thru the screen.
Bosch says it, filters a about 60 microns on the newer ones. When I
took my screen off and was looking for any thing in the tank, I found
the glue off clear cover that they put on the pumps in one corner of
the tank and water. Both together was about 1/4 cup. Being that the
water and glue were both bunched up together, they wouldn't go thru
the small holes of the baffel, much less the screen. Just something
to think about before you go thru the long process of cleaning
hoses.

Well as far as the car goes, its spelled DeLorean
As for outstanding data entry skills, I commend the following
organizations:
-My insurance company spells it Dolorian
-Florida DMV spells it Deloran, they even saw my VIN plate in person.
-The shippers I have used have spelled it Delorean, Deelorian, and
dalorean.

Jason, Side post batteries are notorious for giving trouble if you
have them. We put a new side post in my wifes car and it lasted less
that 2 years. They started leaking and corroded out the connection
and then lost it. I switched my D over to top post. Either way you
go, it's more than likly the battery.

I want to know the list's opinion on mixing front cross-drilled brake rotors
with non-cross-drilled rear rotors. I already have the front rotors, but
cannot get rear ones to match. They are no longer available. The vendor
told me that they would refund my money & shipping charges if I returned
them.
I ordered all 4 brake rotors through Summit Racing who gets them through
Auto Specialty. Before I ordered them, I asked if they were in stock. They
said they were. It took about a month to ship the front rotors & pads.
Then a month or so later they shipped the pads for the rear brakes, but no
rear rotors. It took several months of having them on back order and
several phone calls to both Summit Racing and Auto Specialty to find out
that they are now a discontinued item. They said that in the last year and
a half they only sold 3 sets so they are not interested in making any more
due to lack of demand. I tried getting them to make a special production
run if I bought the whole run, but there was too much red tape involved.
Apparently Auto Specialty gets these rotors from another company, PowerStop
who then apparently uses a sub-contractor. What a mess. I'm too busy with
other projects to worry about making new ones from scratch. I don't like
copying someone else's wimpy design anyway.
For those of you who don't like cross-drilled rotors saying that they crack,
break, etc., can you explain why Porche is using them on production cars?
They must be reliable or they wouldn't be used like this.
I'm thinking real hard about building a new running gear using an aluminum
frame and cross-drilled brake rotors from a Porche. I heard of someone in
California (I think) who did a Porche brake conversion to their DeLorean.
Does anyone know about it? I already have more projects going than any
normal person could finish in a life time. It's a darn good thing I'm not
normal!

Hello All,
I saw on a member's website something about the original plastic A/C panel
melting due to the panel lights being on all the time. (and a nice jumper
modification to switch them on with the headlights). How big a problem is
this, and should I be concerned? I have an original plastic panel, and
don't want to risk having it melt and replace it with those newer vinyl
overlays. I don't think the jumper solution will help me much, since I
drive with the headlights lights on all the time.

To all, Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions but I still have no power at all. I checked the
battery and it said it was good but I went ahead and swapped the one from my svx in and it still
didn't do anything. After switching the battery back I tried jumping it with my other car and had
no luck. I then checked to see if I was getting any power to the jumper post in the engine bay and
I am so it would seem that my problem lies somewhere after that. Any other ideas?

cars dim one at a time, then switch over! Nor is there the risk of
spilling soda and tripping airbags on Lucas cars!
Any time I've had something arise, it's been both easy to track down
and repair. Plus they were things that were to be expected for a 20
year old car. Shorted wires are not something you should have in a
brand new car!

Subject: New problem: fuel baffle
A big thank you to those who helped me with my last problem. Unfortunately, I have another one. If you'll recall, the fuel pickup hose in my gas tank had become somewhat missing. To solve that problem, I simply ordered a new one, as many of you suggested. Now, having drained all the gas, I have discovered that not only was the pickup hose missing, but also the entire baffle assembly, including the baffle, bottom cover, baffle retainer, and the in-tank fuel filter. This is quite the problem. I can find all of the accessory parts at all of the online retailers, but the baffle itself is nowhere to be found. DMC Houston doesn't even list it (part#106241) in their inventory. I called PJ Grady and he said that they are completely out of that part. Does anyone know where I can find this elusive part?

Well, I'm thinking of selling my beloved car due to lack of use. It's
beautiful with a bit over 16K miles on it, all original and is a
California native and still here. Never driven in the rain. A few
minor cosmetic items, and I mean MINOR. Mechanically about perfect. I
paid 16K for it in '98 and put about a grand in it with upgrades and
new tires. I still have the original NCTs. So list, what's it worth
and should I sell or keep it? Money's not the issue here, I just
don't have the time to enjoy it and it loves to be driven. Thoughts,
ideas, offers all welcomed.

From what I have read, your third spelling is pretty much correct. With the
space and like two words capitalized. I think I have ALL of the hardback
books, plus "De Lorean Gold" and "Stainless Steel Illusion". They ALL
spell it that way with very few exceptions. However it seems like when it
refers to the car itself officially it is one word. (DeLorean). My original
window sticker however spells it De Lorean and the car rear "bumper" has it
De Lorean with the space.....then the metal plate on the drivers door sill
has it all together at DeLorean......just looked up my Title and
registration for kicks and they are both spelled with the space! I guess
John Z probably doesn't care!

Can it be repaired? Mine started to make "Clicking"
noise when tires are rotating/driving.

I just got my copy of a program called Lightwave 6. Its a CGI
program. I decided to get a more indepth book for it than what comes
with it so I was looking at a book called "Inside: LIghtwave 6"
Debating wether or not to buy it I flipped through it and what do I
see? On page 11, Figure 1.6 there is a graphics design of the Back to
the Future DeLorean (four different views)
Just thought I'd let you know. BTW: I figured that was a sign, so I

I am currently running a mixed setup on my D right now. The front rotors are cross-drilled and the rears are not. IMHO, the braking feels tighter than the stock setup and the car seems to stop more quickly. I don't have any official numbers or anything to back up my observations, sorry. Since the majority of the stopping power comes from the front brakes anyway, I'm not sure if much more improvement can be gained by adding cross-drilled rotors to the rear wheels. Just my $.02.

Subject: Oil pan woes
Today I had the oil changed in my DeLorean at the Honda dealership where I
work. We removed the drain plug only to find it completely stripped with
only about one or two threads at the top, it's a wonder it stayed in. So
now I need a new drain plug. Upon further inspection of the oil pan, the
threads inside are in almost the same shape. Looks like I also need a new
oil pan, which leads me to my big question. How do you remove the oil pan
from the car? I can't even get at the bolts on the front end due to the
frame being too close to one side. The only thing I can think of would be
to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine up. Is this really what you
have to do?
Don't count this as bitching, I still absolutely love my car!

I thought that perhaps a public statement might have more impact than
the private opinion that I gave your recently when we talked. It is
true that your car is everything that you say it is, although I think
that the cosmetic issues are a lot more minor than you state in your
posting.
The recent addition of a pair of "nut covers" for you windshield
wipers was the most serious offense that I saw when drooling over
your car at the parade. Your car is better described as pristine.
In any case, I know that you now have a new love, a motorcycle, but I
need to remind you that your ownership of the Delorean is not an
everyday occurrence. As an example, if you were to sell it and
revert to driving normal cars, and later you decided to go back to
the Delorean, you would be hard pressed to find one in as good as
shape as yours!
You are a credit to the Delorean community as you represent and
display the car while maintaining the philosophy of telling people
about it. You are well known for giving rides to all that ask or
just get in! In short, keep it until you are definitely sure that
you cannot live without it. Try not "visiting" it for a few weeks
and see if you still feel the same.
In conclusion, if you sell, someone will get a perfect car and the
Delorean community will lose a woderful sponsor. Please resonsider.
