Subject: possible idle switch misadjustment?
Hi, my name's Richard and I'm new to the list. I just got my DeLorean
#4411 on Monday, and one thing that strikes me as suspicious is the
throttle behavior. When you're in neutral and press very slowly down on
the accelerator, the tach sits right at idle around 900 rpm for like
1/2 inch of pedal travel. Then I hear a soft click and the engine speeds
up to (ultimately) 2500 rpm. Slowly releasing the pedal puts you back
down at idle. There seems to be no in-between. This makes starting
moving a little dicey, since you either do it at idle, or you take off
fast. Is this normal for this car, or is it misadjusted somewhere?

The first 600 cars that left the factory did not have door guides, these
items were added as of Service Bulletin ST-14-9/81 which was issued after
the factory was notified of problems with the latching of the doors. All
cars leaving the factory after Vin 1100 were fitted with Door Latch Guides.

A 1/2 inch of pedal travel before you hear the click indicates that you may
need a throttle linkage and or idle speed microswitch adjustment.

Hi Richard,
My #17115 does roughly what you describe. However the behaviour goes
away when the engine warms up. The engine then responds very well to
the accelerator. It takes around 10 to 15 minutes to warm up, so
usually I start the car, clean off the childrens fingerprints with
cleaning alcohol and then drive the car.

Wayne,
Happy to hear about solving your battery problem. I thought I might comment
on your comment that:
"The mechanic says even my "Ducey goosey" alternator is charging
just fine (!)"
Just a word of caution: when the Ducellier alternator is ready to die it
will give no warning. The Ducellier alternator is rated at 80 amps
continuous, the DeLorean electrical system can draw in excess of 90 amps at
full load (all accessories switched on). The system will surge higher than
that especially when the cooling fans kick in unless equipped with a
Fanzilla.
Just like a fuse, when the Ducellier is overloaded it will just stop
working. Keep in mind that heat is also a big factor.

Subject: MSD Problems
Hello,
Just purchased my first D a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to
install an MSD 6A box with a Blaster 2 Coil. Problem is I have
installed 3 different boxes and they only last for about 5 to 8
minutes each, then they just die. I'm also using the MSD-8910HV (tach
adapter)and the original(Delorean) ICU to trigger the 6A. MSD has no
clue as to what may be causing this problem and I'm just about to
give up on MSD.
Has anyone been able to successfully install one of these?...
What's the trick?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

When my D is warming up from a cold start. The engine idles up and down
like someone is playing with the gas paddle. I was told that is normal and
Ds are designed to do that. My question is why? I do not know of any other
car that behave that way. There must be a reason as to why it was designed

First I would like to thank evryone who has ever responded to my
problems that I have posted. I'm still a fairly new Delorean owner and am
still catching on to the whole "experience" of owning the car. One of these
days I might be able help someone else out. For now I have another question.
I posted a problem last week about my radiator getting a hole in it when
my cars started to overheat and my fans weren't on when I stopped the car. I
will be purchasing a Fanzilla in the next couple of weeks but I was wondering if
that is going to solve my problem with the fans not coming on. My take of the
fanzilla was that it just reduces the sudden drop in voltage when the car is driven
with the a/c on and when the fans kick on. What should be the first thing that I
check with the fans to see why they are not coming on? I know that they are plugged
in at the fans so I know that's not the problem. Could it be the relay? How can I tell
if a relay goes bad? My fan fail light has never come on either. Any ideas or suggestions?
Would a fanzilla take car of this?
I don't like to drive with a/c in any car but I did try it once in the DeLorean and turned it
off after about 5 minutes because I was getting real annoyed with the compressor kicking
on all the time. I will still buy a fanzilla reguardless. I just want to check to see if there is anything
that I should check before I put the radiator and fans back in the car this weekend.

Well, it looks like the BTTF car show comments may be about to get behind

This weekend at The Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Mass, is
having a British Car Day. Since I live very close to the Museum, I called
the coordinator of the event, and it went something like this:
Me: I'm interested in bringing my car to the event this weekend, but it is
debatable if it qualifies as "British".
Him: Does it leak oil?
Me: No.
Him: Well, can't be British, then.
But once I told him it was a Delorean, he was happy to include my car in the
show. He even mentioned that he used to live right down the road from
Delorean One in CA, but hasn't seen a D in years. (He seemed surprised that
there was a shop devoted entirely to Deloreans - I enlightened him that
there are several across the country) There are going to be between 150
and 200 other cars there this weekend (see

--> BUT I DO NEED A BIG FAVOR from anyone who has shown their car at a show
like this.. I would like to put together a "fact sheet" that I can
distribute or leave on the car to answer all the likely questions. Does
anyone have the basic facts already assembled, like I saw at Cleveland on
many cars? If so, could you please, please email what you have, so I can
put something simple together before Sunday. (I'm thinking simple 8.5x11
photocopied sheets).
Finally, I just want to say that I've had my car for about six weeks now,
and it is just a total joy to drive, every single minute. The weather here
has been perfect - bright, sunny, not to hot.. I couldn't be happier with
this fine automobile. Just wanted to share...

It's the single wire with the single round connector crimped to it.
