Two of my cars (a 1992 Volkswagen Corrado G60 and 1995 BMW 325i) do the
identical thing. I can't answer "why", but it is normal, and happens with
other vehicles.

The color of the wire that connects to the automatic antenna on the
craig radio is pink, its all by itself and it has a female connector crimped

Joe,
Better check that Service Bulletin again. Service Action SA-0005
states that there were 2 door latch guide kits: W300003 for cars up to
VIN 1100 and W300004 for cars after. (My car, VIN 1141 needed the
W300004 kit to add the guides that were NOT installed by the factory)
The SA implies (but does not specifically state) that cars up to VIN
3000 are affected. Since VIN 3000 is an August 1981 build and the
bulletin was issued in September, the timing is about right.

has anyone had there engine flushed out w/a machine that is deisigned to get
the goop out of the engine.
I have a high mileage engine and based on the goop i have seen on the bottom
of the oil filler cap have been considering having this internal engine
cleaning done to my vehicle.
my cocern is I dont know anyone who has had there engine flushed like this
and this service cost $200. I dont want to pay for this if it is not going
to do anything. I was also considering switching over to sythetic type oil
and i had heard a rumour that it is recommended that you have your engined
flushed first before switching a engine over from stardanrd oil to
synthetic.
does anyone have any experience w/this?

I was just curious...how did you manage to get a Ducellier alternator on
your car if they stopped the Ducellier alternator at VIN# 4539? I don't
think that they would have installed that alternator at one of the QAC's when
they found out that they were so under powered. Are you sure that you don't
have the Motorola alternator on there? Maybe thats why it didn't fail "yet."
Just a thought.

Unfortunately there is no simple explanation for this behavior which is
normal to the Bosch K-Jetronic C.I.S. fuel injection system and Lambda
emissions system. If you would like to know the details of what causes this
behavior go to the DeLorean workshop manual and read D:04:08 through
D:04:10.
Note the "action circle" chart at D:04:10, the idle speed circuit interacts
with this cycling action which causes the idle regulator to vary or cycle
during
warm-up.
Keep in mind that this fuel injection system which was originally designed
in the mid 70's and was one of the first fuel systems to use electronics for
engine control. In later versions (KE, L, and LH) of the Bosch fuel systems
more sophisticated electronics help to maintain a more constant idle during
warm-up.

P.S. Delorean Cars Where Built In Twinbrook N.Ireland. So the real
question is, "Is N.Ireland "Irish" or "British". Well I lived their

This weekend at The Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Mass, is
having a British Car Day. Since I live very close to the Museum, I called
the coordinator of the event, and it went something like this:
Me: I'm interested in bringing my car to the event this weekend, but it is
debatable if it qualifies as "British".
Him: Does it leak oil?
Me: No.
Him: Well, can't be British, then.
But once I told him it was a Delorean, he was happy to include my car in the
show. He even mentioned that he used to live right down the road from
Delorean One in CA, but hasn't seen a D in years. (He seemed surprised that
there was a shop devoted entirely to Deloreans - I enlightened him that
there are several across the country) There are going to be between 150
and 200 other cars there this weekend (see
http://www.mot.org/museum_home.htm for more info).
--> BUT I DO NEED A BIG FAVOR from anyone who has shown their car at a show
like this.. I would like to put together a "fact sheet" that I can
distribute or leave on the car to answer all the likely questions. Does
anyone have the basic facts already assembled, like I saw at Cleveland on
many cars? If so, could you please, please email what you have, so I can
put something simple together before Sunday. (I'm thinking simple 8.5x11
photocopied sheets).
Finally, I just want to say that I've had my car for about six weeks now,
and it is just a total joy to drive, every single minute. The weather here
has been perfect - bright, sunny, not to hot.. I couldn't be happier with
this fine automobile. Just wanted to share...

I'm still looking for the "right" delorean, right now I'm looking at
a
1981' with the gas flap and sport stripes. it has 7,500miles. it
has
been in storage since 1992, heated facility. the owner is replacing
the fuel pump and has ordered a fuel system kit. besides the fuel
system, what else should I look at mechanicly that long term storage
may have inflicked? he is asking for about 14,800, well within my
budget but I'm wondering how much would I might be sinking into it to
turn it into a summer, weekend car? Thanks in advance!!

I was driving my D the other day. A couple of times the pedal went all the
way to the floor. Then it seemed to be fine again. I checked the normal
probable causes...fluid, etc.. I also had the brake fluid flushed recently.
Anyone had a similar problem. I would think if the master cylinder was bad
it would be occuring all the time not just once in a while.

Yes...don't do this unless your sure your engine has no leaks! I had this done
to my high mileage Honda and the day after I got it back the engine died (on
the highway!) because flushing it out opened up some previously unnoticed
wounds at the gaskets.
The car ran fine beforehand, but the Valvoline guys seemed so sure that
doing this would improve the car's overall performance. It took me almost a
month and a half to properly reclog the openings with "goop" again! after I
did the engine ran like new for another 4 years before I finally had it fixed
correctly.

Yeah, that's why I figured that, having an '82, no way I'd have the original
style alternator. My car was made just days before the company went into
receivership. All I can figure is, maybe at a QAC they had a problem with
the unit and swapped it with another car on hand, or a unit on the shelf.
I'm the third owner...who knows, maybe a prior repairman replaced the
motorola with the cheaper of the two available styles. Even today, you can
buy a new Duc. if you want one. I dunno. But I've seen the label on it with
my own eyes, to my dismay.

If you lost some of your coolant with the hole in the radiator, you most
likely got air in the cooling system. This will stop the water pump from
circulating the coolant and with the temp switch being on the return line,
it will not heat up enough to turn the fans on. Fix the leak, refill with
coolant, bleed the system of any trapped air and all should be good.

The DeLorean's engine uses a mechanical fuel injection system that was
designed years before anyone worried about emissions. Bosch employed an
interim fix until their elecronic fuel injection was ready to market. This
was accomplished by adapting the Lamba system ( which I belive the folks at
Saab devised ) to their Jetronic injection system. It was then called the
K-Jetronic system. The oxygen sensor used, along with the ECU unit and
various other engine sensors were pretty basic. The oxygen sensor is
unheated and relies on exhaust gases to get it up to temperature. When it's
cold it isn't sending the right voltage signal to the ECU so the engine ,
actually the frequency valve, is receiving a signal from the ECU that causes
it to hunt for the right fuel mix. As the exhaust gases bring the O2 sensor
up to temperature things smooth out. Modern cars heat the O2 sensor
electrically right at start up so the fuel mix gets to the Stoichiometric
mix of about 14.1 to 1 very quickly.

Took my D to Sears for the free replacement battery this afternoon. Hooking
up the tester, Sears said they think the alternator is the problem, it isn't
charging the battery. My mechanic told me yesterday, looking at HIS tester,
that the BATTERY is the problem, therefore the alternator, which he said is
fine, can't charge it fully. What gives? They both said the alternator
seems to be putting out about 13 amps or a little less with the motor
running. They differ over whether that is "just fine" or "poor."The usually
gauge reads at about "8 o'clock" sometimes below the lower middle line. That
looks low to me. Lower than before a/c season. :( I'm a daily driver but
most of my driving is under 10 minutes. It's a small town. Sears is
charging the battery overnight to see if it is really the problem. I'll be
interested to see who wins this "finger pointing" contest!
