I think the entertainer quickly edited his planed act when we moaned at
the joke about Cristina Ferrare. Ken pointed out that Christina's
daughter (Kathryn DeLorean) was in the audience with us. To cover it

For those of you that haven't checked out Tamir's website at
www.entermyworld (or seen it recently), it is worth checking out! For those
of you that caught the last line of my last posting, I was just kidding
about Tamir. He is a great guy (especially since he put up with my
harassment of his website promoting . . .he did all of the things to promote
his site I had planned on doing, but didn't get around to).
I have yet to meet someone from the list that wasn't a true pleasure to
meet. The amount of knowledge that we, as a whole, have is astounding! It
was amazing to be able to sit with a random group of people at any point
during the show and always have something to talk about.

Robert,
I am just a little confused. (The fuel in the
gas tank is getting hot enough in traffic to cause the pick up hose
to collapse,) The gas tank is in the front of the car, not a lot of heat
there. And if you know that the pick-up hose in the gas tank has been
collapsing, you will need to start there. The pick-up hose in the gas tank
is about a $100.00 so inspect it closely and make sure that it does need
replacing. It will hurt the wallet, but as far as I know there is no cross
over part.
Anyway, I think that a good place to check for your fuel problem is the fuel
lines that are connected to your fuel accumulator. These lines can collapse
if they were not put together with the proper tools. Heat is used the seal
them properly and if they were heated to much they will collapse internally.
Something to think about here is these lines can be made up in stainless
steel braided fuel line. Any speed shop or large truck service center can
make them up for you.

If your "fan fail" lamp comes on with the AC it means your DeLorean is still
equipped with the factory installed "Fan Fail Module". Replace this
electrical component ASAP! The Fan Fail Module has a 98% failure rate and
can cause engine overheating with resulting permanent engine damage in
extreme cases. This item can be replaced by the Fan Fail Bypass Modification
or the Fanzilla.

Subject: Houston to Cleveland and back
I made it back to Houston Monday night after my 2825 mile round trip to
Cleveland. More Kudos to Ken, his family, the Substelny's, and the many
others who brought this show together!
My personal highlights of the trip:
Meeting JZD and getting three autographs, including the Official Concours
Judging Handbook, an early DeLorean brochure, and my original dealer tag
showing me as the purchaser of #4730 on March 12, 1982. I even had his
nephew, Mark, take about three pictures of me with John.
Coming out the front of the hotel, running late for the Saturday Night
Dinner, hoping onto the Holiday Inn shuttle bus with John and Katherine,
thinking they must be headed over there as well. Turns out they were headed
for dinner some distance away, so I just sat in the back of the bus between
the two of them and chatted for 15-20 minutes. Very pleasant people, and I
even managed to get a laugh out of John with him saying that he'd have to
remember that one. He seemed to be genuinly impressed with the outpouring
of affection for him as well as the condition of so many of the cars. He
was truly impressed. Great guy to put up with us all with such style and
grace. We all wish him well.
My trip to Cleveland also rewarded me with the 1st Place Award for over
100,000 miles, as well as the Farthest Traveled (1507 miles, as I went up by
way of Dallas to spend an evening with my daughter there). The trip was
flawless, with the exception of a fuel tank baffle that shifted and was
causing the pickup to cavitate. Stephen Wynn was kind enough to diagnose
that and shove it back into place. The only other incident was catching a
rock on the forward edge of the windshield starting a small crack that is
working its way up. S___ Happens! Original windshield, so it's about time
to replace it anyway after over 170,000 miles.
The only downside to the show for me, was serving as one of the Concours
Judges, which didn't allow me much time to check out all of the cars or the
vendor's tables. But judging has its plus side, in that it lets you really
poke your nose deep into the best prepared D's at the show. The gold
DeLorean from the museum was to be entered, but they had some legal
difficulties with moving it to the site, and the rules do not allow judging
anywhere but the designated area. Bummer! I was REALLY looking forward to
nosing around that one! But I did get up close and personal with the Johnny
Carson car, which was kinda cool.
Mike and Patti gave me one of the copies of the news clip on the show, and
if anyone wants me to make a copy, contact me directly and we'll work
something out. It's very brief, but a great shot of John feigning shock at
the BTF car blowing smoke. Probably worth blowing a 2 hr cassette on a
thirty second clip.
All in all, a great show. This is going to tough to top, Ken!

The factory installed, just one, basic fuel gauge sender for all 8500 cars.
Although a slight modification was made to the senders after vin 5237 they
are virtually all the same. The Tankzilla (PJ Grady) was developed because
of high failure rates and short replacement supply.

My family wanted to thank Ken for one of the best car shows I have ever been
too. We have traveled all over the country to different car shows for many
years. This Cleveland show the best we have even been to.
We like Cleveland so much we are actually going to go back for a weekend and

Ken deserves the admiration of every DML member.
As an interesting side note, I had the chance to talk to Kathine about the rift
between DOA and the DML. She told us about some interesting letters between
DOA and JZD. This may be why John has made his first appearance with the DML.
I wish we had more time to talk to JZD. Will he have a prototype car for 2002?

I remember reading something on DMC Joes site about the updated PRV engine
collaberation. Does anyone have a info update on this? I would love to
legally add a few more HP to the PRV, without having to perform an engine
swap (I only have 2,500 miles on my baby). Also keeping the cost under
$5,000 is a main concern too :-)
If I hear nothing soon, I will probably just go with the original twin turbo
setup (though I am not sure about the cost).

I had previously posted my car and a myriad of parts for sale at this site
however, after extensive review and analysis of the Delorean resale market, I
find that my car would be worth more disassembled and sold for parts. Even
though DeLoreans are unique and not many were made, it is my understanding
there is no shortage of new parts. I am amazed at the retail cost of these
parts which I interpret as high demand . . . or possibly, the person who has
them is in it for long term gain for parts he got real cheap.
The Delorean is a phenomenal event right up there with the Tucker in
automotive history.

BTW the "entertainer" aboard that cruise we took on Lake Erie and the
Cuyahoga River was actually Captain Jim, owner of the cruise line. He

The fuel accumulator consists of a pressure chamber, diaphragm, spring, and
plunger. The last three items are prone to breakage and leaking. We have no
indication that heated fuel accelerates any failures.
If hot fuel is collapsing your fuel pick up line you will need to replace
the pick up hose.

The brown spots on your dash is ultraviolet and heat damage caused from
excessive sun exposure. Most trim shops can revive the original look by
spraying the dash with a special upholstery spray. To protect your dash from
browning and or cracking avoid extended sun exposure by using some type of
front windshield sunshade.

I have been searching for a turbocharger for the PRV6 for months now,
the lowest I have found for a new kit is $815 from A1 turbo but I am
not sure about buying this because the only information given is
(IHI, $815). I have talked to two people who wish to sell me an
entire engine with a turbo but I really don't need a whole new engine
so I don't feel spending the extra money. Would anyone be willing to
sell or know of someone selling a used turbocharger and the necessary
mounting equipment for my working PRV6?

We also have a grey interior 5 speed, '82. They're the pick of the litter!
Compare prices, budget carefully, and don't spend for goodies like a fancy
sound system or new seats until you get your safety issues (brakes, steering,
tires, fuel system, taillights) mechanicals, (fluids, filters, header bottle,
bonnet release etc.) resolved. And don't let yourself be impatient.
They're worth the wait!
Where do you live in NJ? We are in Bridgeton, in central south Jersey.

The manual also says to raise it up to replace your clutch line. But at the
advice of someone on the list, I simply had the mechanic thread it through,
alongside the old one, and leave the old one in place. It's because of
things like this that I'm working toward compiling a new, updated and
exhaustive SERVICE MANUAL. Now that I'm back from Cleveland, I hope to get
the ball rolling in earnest!!
BTW, it would probably be a LOT harder to do with the big fat AC hose, if it
can be done that way. I'd do both hoses while you're under there, if you go
the "unbolt" route. Your bolts might be a lot harder than you think to
loosen! :(

My fuel gauge doesn't seem very accurate I suppose most D's are the
same.My gauge can go from half tank to nothing only after doing 27
miles or so but there still must be loads of fuel left.
I would hazzard a guess the gauge is about a qurter of a tank out.
Any comments on this.

I may have posted this before, but it hasn't showed up yet so I
thought I'd post it again to be sure.
I finally getting sick of putting up with a handful of electrical
issues in the DeLorean I bought a few months ago. Before I even
start to try to diagnose the problems I thought I'd post a
description here to see if anybody can give me a point in the right
direction. Here's what I'm encountering:
-AC Vent fan doesn't operate consistently, it works fine for a short
while and then cuts in and out intermitedly.
-If I put a blub in the front right turn signal, the turn signal
causes the interior instrument lights to blink in addition to not
working at all when the headlights are turned on (it just stay's on).
This is currently "fixed" by removing the front turn signal bulb.
-The rear-defroster light is always on, it used to be always off.
I'm not really sure how the rear-defroster works on a Delorean; I
can't find a switch to turn it on, so I'm assuming it should only
turn on when the heater is set to defrost.
-I have a lame decuelier (spelling?) alternator that drops well below
13 volts when the AC is on. What alternator do you guys recdommend?
I've seen upgrade kits advertised on the net for around $250 which
seems like way to much to spend on an alternator. Are there any hi-
powered alternators that will bolt on without any extra mounting
stuff?
