Subject: Replacement Radio Bracket

Hello all,
I just received the radio bracket which is being offered by the DeLorean
Midstates Club / Micah Fryman. It is an exact replica of the original (which
is not available anymore). It is a work of art and shows real craftmanship
behind the product. Although the bracket is without the black wrinkle
finish, it does have a nice black finish which looks excellent. In fact, you
would not notice the difference between the original and the new bracket if
you're not looking up close.
This is a great buy, esp. if your original bracket has been cut (mine was,
and looked terrible).

All switches etc. matches the holes in the bracket. The black finish really
contributes to make your DeLorean feel like a "new" car.

Recommended! A+

Best wishes

I'm selling a set of Delorean custom wheels that only fit a Delorean... see
pictures of them on my car: www.geocities.com/deloreanwheels.

I just recently sold my Delorean and kept the wheels and stereo

the wheels and tires are still for sale.

DML,
is there like a place where delorean owners can help
fund Michael J. Fox's foundation? if there isn't, i
know there will be one soon.

Subject: Illuminated DeLorean Ashtray

Last night I drove my wife's Porsche 924S across town.  While cruising
along and admiring the interior, I was reminded that I once saw a parts
interchange list that showed the 924 shared the DeLorean's ashtray.  On
close inspection, I believe that the 924S also uses the same ashtray,
and I extrapolate that the 944 probably does, too.

I mention this not to encourage parts interchange, but to point out that
in the 924S the interior of that ashtray is *illuminated* whenever the
headlights are turned on.  It is a clever trick using a bulb inside the
center consol, that requires no wires running through the ashtray.  At
night it gives the Porsche a more luxurious look.

I believe it would be a very simple matter to achieve the same effect in
a DeLorean.  If anyone wants to see how it works in the Porsche, just
come to Cleveland.  I will ask Patti to bring her Porsche to Saturday
night's banquet at the Science Center, or maybe the Crawford.

Last night on my drive home I was stuck in traffic (70deg outside) I
noticed a faint light come on that said "fan failer" the light never
came on fully just kind of faded in and out.  I was running AC and
the
fan stopped working.  The traffic started moving and the light went
out.  Further down the road the fan started working again HUM . . .
what could this be?

A relay?
A solinoid?

any input would be of help

Subject: Glove Box Insert Poll

Dear List,
The other day, I was working on my car's interior when I noticed that
my glove box insert was wavy, cracked and broken in multiple places.
I checked out my Dad's car, and sure enough, his is the same way.
I'm interested in knowing if this is a common DeLorean problem?  If
so, would people be interested in buying a reproduction glove box from
a DeLorean parts supplier if the craftsmanship was equal to or better
than the original, and if the price was right?  I ask this because DMC
Houston has no original glove box inserts left and I have the
resources to make one, but need to generate some interest first.
I have created a poll at the following URL to find out if this is
something I should pursue getting done.  The address is:
http://www.egroups.com/polls/dmcnews
I'd like to get as many people participating in this as possible, so
if your glove box is in need of repair or replacement, or think it may
need replaced in the future please check out the poll.

You can get the finish you are looking for.  There is a product made by
Krylon called "Wrinkle Finish."  It is paint and it comes in a spray can.
You can get this product in any hardware store or home center that carries
the Krylon Product. You spray it on and it will "wrinkle up" as it dries.
The surface finish is very durable and long lasting.  It comes in different
colors.  The color you will need is #3370 Jet Black.

Dear List,
Anyone in the Cincinnati area want to join my father and I in a
DeLorean caravan on our way to Cleveland Friday, June 16th?  I was also
thinking the group coming up from Florida, (or anywhere south of
Cincinnati for that matter) might want to join in too.  Depends on what
day and time you are planning on coming through the area though.  We
intend to leave Cincinnati at noon on Friday.  E-mail me personally if
you want to join in, and we'll set up the logistics.  71 goes through
the heart of Cincinnati, so it shouldn't be much trouble to hook up.
Let me know.

I will see what I can do.  The ashtray is black and you cannot see the light
during the day, so I doubt that any photo taken by me will do justice to the
look that Porsche achieved.  Perhaps if a skilled photographer comes to
Cleveland he/she will be able to get a good image.  Are any of you skilled
photographers?

Subject: Compartment Behind Driver's Seat

Hello,
I'm just curious as to how the compartment's lid is supposed to open. I'm
talking about the compartment behind the driver's seat.

My compartment lid is "loose", meaning than whenever I use my key to open
it, it sort of jumps out of the two fitting holes that I would guess should
hold it in place.

I would also guess that this is not the way its supposed to function...or is
it? Anyone have the same experience? It's a bit annoying at times, you open
the little door only to find it becomes loose and "hanging" on your key...
Maybe I need a new compartment lid?

Hi guys,

Have any of you noticed a large draw on your Voltometer when you turn on the AC?  I have really noticed when I turn on the AC that some times at Idle the meter reads under 13 VOlts.  Is that pretty common?  Have any of you purchased a better alternator, or another fix?

Thanks,

Subject: RE: NO 3rd or 4th fan speed

The original message said ... "I crimp with a full ratchet
tool and then solder. It may be an overkill, but I don't have problems in
the
middle of the road."

When you crimp and solder, the solder firms up the wires that can result in
broken wire strands at the solder point, eventually resulting in overheating
of the wires or full failure.  The soldered portion stays firm and the wire
near the soldered connection flexes eventually breaking some of the strands.
The wire should be supported beyond the solder or strain relieved in another
manor to prevent flexing near the solder.  This is much more of a problem
where the connections see greater vibrations but in a car, all wires are
subject to vibration.

Note that this tidbit was picked up from the aviation business where they do
a lot of crimped connections.  Soldered and crimped is either HIGHLY
discouraged or unacceptable, I forget which.  A good crimped connection is
more than adequate.  Using a good ratcheting style crimper should produce a
very good connection.

I'm sure there are many connections out there that are performing well and
are both soldered and crimped.  Being a "belt & suspenders" person myself on
occasion, I used to believe that soldering crimped connectors was the best
way to go and that factory production of these types of connectors were not
soldered in order to save money.  The aviation wiring article that pointed
out the reason why not to solder and crimp changed my opinion.
