Greg,
Who was bitching about how expensive eggs are?
I know where to buy them for a fair price.  I just don't like
being preached to about some unproven god.
BTW
Aldis sells generic cereal for $1.29 for the typical box.
Jewel sell the same name brands for $3.99
Of this $3.99,  people pay over $1.00 just for Advertising expense.
Yes,
they pay to get advertised to buy, what they are already buying.
Ironic,
advertising typically only increases sales of normal consumer products
by 4%.   Seems a little unwise spending by corporation. But those
parties
from the advertising agencies.  You can't beat them!!!!!
The further irony is that these generic cereals are produced by the
same name brand
companies.   They use generic production to cover the cost of their
manufacturing overhead,
so the name brand stuff is almost pure profit.
I know this to be accurate from my many years on corporate staffs.
Jewel and Dominic's (the two store chains left in the Chicago area.)
Kroger, A&P, etc all left years ago.) used to sell generic brands.
They start this back in the 70s (before your time?).  when people were
really complaining about food prices.
After Jewel got acquired by Albertson the generics disappeared from
both chain stores.  A little collusion?
It is a shame that people have to pay so much for their food.   But
this is america.  There's a choice
between illusion of competition between one highed priced chain store
and the other.   And then there is Aldi's
and Wal fart.
